Here we go again! Low Benchmarks with GTX 680!

Thread Starter
Well here we go again, I am getting low benchmarks with my gtx 680 this time instead of my gtx 470's SLI. It's really starting to tick me off. I don't know what is going on and I'm pretty sure EVGA most likely won't be that helpful or they will brush me off like the last time.

Here is the 3DMark11 Score :

297

Let me know what you guys think!

Let me know what you guys think!

Only things I can think of:

1) Reinstalling drivers (try rolling back though)
2) Different PCI-e slot
3) Might be a bad overclock (sometimes when you OC cards it actually hurts performance, happened with my GTX 480)
4) Throttling? Check temps
5) Try a different benchmark
6) Is your CPU throttling for some reason?

1) I can try that. Although I did a clean driver sweeper when installing the drivers. Rolling back you mean through Windows Device Manger for the video card?

2) I have plenty so I could also try that.

3) No overclocks whatsoever on this card

4) I will check them out next time I run the benchmark.

5) Unigine might be a better one

6) Is there a way to see if it is throttling?

Realtemp program shows the current clock speed and temps the processor is running at. If at 100% usage the processor is running too hot and you see that the clock speed Realtemp shows is less than what you have it clocked to, then it is throttling.

Do you check the actual running clocks of the card when running the benchmark? If the card is not going out of 2D mode then that could be the problem.

Hope you get it fixed buddy.

So I ran unigine this time, and the results are much better than my gtx 470's SLI. Maybe about 15-20 fps higher. I checked the card with GPU-Z and it was running full load and at the clocks that the card states it runs at. Temperature hit about 70 C at full load for the graphics.

The CPU is constantly running at 3.44GHz with Turbo Mode On. I don't think it ever clocked down while running.

Could anyone give me a comparative benchmark with their card? I just want to make sure that I am running what I should be running.

If you look at the break down of your 3DMark11 scores, your GPU score itself is fine. It seems like your CPU is a little slower which drags down the physics, combined, and overall scores. If it's running at stock, check your physics scores against other 980X's to see if they compare (just in case the target scores include overclocked versions).

Your GPU score is good. I get just over 10k GPU score with a +170, +550 OC. Your CPU score seems low for a hexa with HT though.

I checked on Futuremark and it seems that most people have overclocked 980x's. I think that's what I saw as well when I researched why my 470's were performing low. Maybe it's just me and I'm expecting too much. I guess I will ask in the intel forums what I need to do to overclock the 980x and update this thread when I am good to go.

Thanks again guys!

Hey I'm having similar problems as you except I have an i5-2500k paired with the EVGA GTX 680.

At Stock CPU & GPU my scores are low even my graphics which in your case isn't:
3dmarkn.png

With my CPU overclocked to 4.5ghz everything except my graphics went up:
3dmarkcpuoc.png

When I overclocked my GPU to +125core/+400mem everything looked better:
c125m400.png

I can't figure out why though my stock GPU score is low as compared to yours which is where it should be.

I wonder if 3dMark 11 keeps track of overclocked scores and that's what we're paired against. I've seen people with similar specs as mine with really high scores compared to mine wonder what it could be.

Your GPU boost might be lower because of heat. Try running full fan speed on the graphics card while benching.
