Hi guys , I've been lurking around for a while and until now I've decided that I wanted to upgrade my dinosaur of a computer. I've been doing a lot of research in trying to find out the best parts at a decent price.

Any input from you guys would be much appreciated as you all would be instilling knowledge in a noobie .

Please let me know if:
1) the parts dont work with eachother
2) I should be looking into a different part
3) scrap everything and give up.
if there's anything else please let me know.. You guys are the bEST!

I'd be using the computer to play games every now and then. Its more as an upgrade to my current PC thats becoming extinct.

As silly as it may sound, I dont know too much about OC'ing but i'd like to have that option.

The i7-2700K is just a 2600K with +100 MHz OC. Get the 2600K.

Well, if you're able to do the OC by yourself ++ 100MHz...
30 dollars can buy you:
8GB of RAM on super savings
30 bags of Doritos/Lays/Cheetos/Tostitos/etc... chips

You can get a H100 with those extra thirty dollars.

Well the big question is what are you using the computer for? Are you buying in the U.S.? If gaming and light use, an i7 is a waste, get an i5-2500k . (Games don't use hyperthreading.) An i7 makes sense only if you're going to be producing a stream, doing 3d artwork, or select workstation tasks. Unless those are major focuses for you, the i5 will do just as well.

Along with that question, if the main purpose is gaming, what monitors are you using? For that level budget of a computer tower, you'd want to consider something more advanced than just a basic 1920x1080 monitor, whether it be a 120hz monitor, a 2560x1440+ resolution monitor, or triple-monitor gaming. Otherwise if you're spending 2k on a tower, you're simply spending too much.

To be honest, I'd reconsider virtually every part (although that is a good system that will work well). But it's just not optimized for saving $ or any one purpose. You can get better for less.

P.S. Don't get a prebuilt if you were considering one. Adds several hundred dollars to the price tag.
