Ultra Silent Fans... Do they exist? - Page 9

Alright, fans arrived today, after a lot of unplugging, unscrewing, changing fans, testing, a tiny bit of modding, and a lot of putting back together, I can say, I LOVE the Noiseblocker M12-S2 and even the coolermaster megaflow. All of the noiseblocker fans are completely silent, and the megaflow is a bit above inaudible but its at a point where I can take it. In fact, my case became so much quieter that I can hear my H50 now (believe it or not, before I couldn't) and now thats the problem, it pisses me off with its stupid vibrations. wink.gif

In the end I do have to say, the money was well spent, and I had fun doing a bit of casemodding so that the megaflow cooler fits in the top of my case. Looks much nicer too now. thumb.gif
Since I am actually hearing my PSU and the H50 cooler from corsair, I wanted to wait with the next step of going into watercooling with finding a PSU that is at least somewhat quiet. I am wondering though, is there a PSU with 1000W that isn't 'loud' running on air?

Seasonic X or P Series.

also the new BeQuiet P10 look nice and will come out soon:

http://www.pc-max.de/news/netzteile/cebit-2012-be-quiet-dark-power-pro-p10-im-finalen-design-vorgefuehrt

i believe that the 800W and below are from FSP and the 1000W + are from Seasonic.

But do you really need 1000W? Would only make sense with a second GTX680.

Told ya so. :3 teehee.

Anyways, in the PSU department, you have the Seasonic X*** series. There's up to a 1250W model if you so please. Same with the Corsair AX*** series. Both are the same units internally so really it's just whichever has the better price at the time of purchase.

My advice, grab either the Corsair AX650-850 or the Seasonic X650-850. Both of those have fans that only run when they get warm, otherwise the fans actually stay off (guaranteed silence biggrin.gif), their 1k+W variants however have a fan that always spins. They aren't loud at all, but they so spin, and if we're trying to reduce noise as far as possible, well, no spinning is always quieter than spinning smile.gif

I do have 2 GTX680's in SLI mode. And the i7 975 sadly is powerhungry, so I don't know how far down I could push it, but I wouldn't go under 900. And then usually the difference between 900W and 1000W is 20 or 30 euros max so I might as well go for the 1000W PSU.

I do love the promises they make in the interview on that website you linked.

You also would say I could go with 850W when I have 2 GTX680's? And I would like to overclock when I actually reach over into watercooling?

if you are going to overclock all components to the max 900-1000W seems about right for a worst case scenario..

The Seasonic P Series runs passive up to 40% Load (=400W) btw
At 100% Load it' gets a bit noisy though.

I would recommend to wait for some reviews of the new BeQuiet P10 1000W wich is based on the Sesonic Platinum but on top of it is focused on ultra low noise operation....

They are nifty. I really enjoy the mounting system and decoupler it comes with.

Regarding psus: my Seasonic X-650 was great, but the fan was annoying. It didn't run very often unless under stress, but when it did it, it would come on in random bursts. Vrroooooooooom for 3 seconds, then stop. At first I thought one of my case fans had a short or something, and couldn't tell where it was coming from. I never knew when it was gonna strike next, which drove me nuts. I would have rather it just remained on a really low rpm or slowly ramped up instead of go hog friggin-crazy for 3 seconds every 30 minutes or so.

I love the fact that I only hear from my Seasonic now and then. Says "Hey dude, still here just in case you need me." Knowing what the noise is, you can learn to love it.

yeah I probably overreacted. I guess I just got used to having a psu before where I didn't hear the fan once in 4 years. 'course that psu sucked. What a difference going from a low quality psu to a well made gold/plat. Better temps, stability at lower voltages..really worth it.
