First Custom Loop, suggestions?

Thread Starter
hey guys, in a couple of moths i'm going to begin my first custom case which will house my first custom loop, i just don't know which parts are the best to choose.
I have a bunch of questions as the closest i've come to water cooling is the h60, but i wanna take it to the next step ya know. so ill just list my questions lol.

1.) I plan on having 680's (or 685's if they're out by august and if they're even going to be named that) in SLI and a 3770k. Would it be better to have two loops or 1 cooling the two?

2.) What size radiator would give me the best cooling possible? (can anyone recommend some good ones?)

3.) Which pump should i go for?

4.) Does a custom loop cool better than, say, an h100?

5, Is there anything you all could teach me?

edit:

I looked around for parts and here's what I chose.

Radiators ( I thought i would need two. One for CPU and one for the 2 GPUS)

Reservoirs

X2
(the height of the one in the pic is deceiving. its 250mm high)

Tubing

What else do i need? Instead of buying my own water blocks i was gonna go with the hydro copper evga edition

1) Serial 1 loop is fine. You can do 2 if your budget allows, but the performance difference for your specified hardware isn't going to be by much.

2) The bigger and more radiators, usually the better. What will dictate what you go with is 1 - your budget, 2 - your choice in chassis (unless you are going to have the rad sit outside your case. One 560mm rad should be more than enough to take care of all of that, but if you can't fit one in your case, you will have to work your way down in choices of size from there (ex. 360mm + 120mm, 240mm + 240mm, etc)

3) The D5 or it's smaller brother would be good. Probably should have at least a D5 (the pump you put a link for) if the waterblocks and/or rads you have chosen are a bit restrictive.

4) The only reason you would go for an H100 is to conserve space and/or because your budget is limited. It also depends on the case you end up chosing. If you went with a mid-size or smaller tower, you obviously will not have much space to work with.

I think most people can better answer your questions if you tell us what case you plan on using and what your budget limit is.

budget is not a problem at all, and the case will have more than enough room as it is a custom enclosure.

i'll recommend 1 xspc Rx360 rad + 1 xspc Rx240, they both can fit in most decent cases , why Xspc , beacause, they are damn good for their prices,

if your case allow it, go for 2 rx360, with silent fans , you'll have more room to overclock both gpu's and cpu

a laing D5 is a very good pump, if your budget allow it, but a laing dcc 18w will do the job too pretty well

as ceteris said before , our advices will be more accurate if we know what case you'll choose,

I use and recommend XSPC RX rads if, like me, you want a quiet PC.
Having said that I would like to try the EK coolstream XTX rads with AP14s, or AP15s and a fan controller.
2 x 240s or a 360 and 120 will be enough. If you can fit a bit more in, all the better.

The D5 pump is an excellent choice I've used them on fairly large loops with good results.
I'm almost ready to rebuild my system in a CaseLabs M8 and am going to use an EK dual top with 2 D5s in series, cos it will be large complex single loop with 2 QDCs.

My current system is a dual loop, as I said it will soon be redone in a new case in a single loop. There is nothing wrong with a dual loop setup, it uses more parts though and takes up more space. I did it mainly cos I hadn't tried it before.

I said before that Im not buying a case in a store, but building my own, into a desk, and I can assure
you I have at least 24 inches (width) to spare and 30" height.

I want to know what parts will give me the best cooling possible.

For some great reviews on WC parts check out Martins site.

He has great reviews for components and is working on one for radiators right now HERE on OCN.

We can all give you our opinions, but these reviews can help you develope your own with what is important to you.

Those will help you choose some of your parts for info on how to put those parts to work be sure to read as much of these as possible.

I just recently swapped from a H-50 to a full loop with my GPU's and found this information to be extremely useful. My only regret is that I didnt make the jump sooner. My temps have never been better and my PC has never been quiter.

ok so i think ill order the loop like this: Pump-->480mm Rad-->CPU Block-->480mm Rad #2--> 680 #1--> 680 #2 --> Res--> Pump.

Is this the right order?
