Which one should I get? My friend has a GTX 580 and I'm impressed but reviews point to 7870. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Both overclocked 580 will edge it out slightly
But;
7870 consumes signifcantly less power and has more vRam.
I'd go 7870 unless you find a 580 for under 300

In terms of pure performance, the 580 will win in the majority of games against the 7870. The 7950 is the rival to the GTX 580, not the 7870 as much.

They're so similar in performance that get whichever you get cheaper.
Personally, I'd go for the 7870 over 580 anytime.
