I assume you're asking about the GTX 580, still retails for more but no one seems to be willing to pay more than $300. Either here at the OCN marketplace, other forum's marketplace equivalent, or eBay.

They've even been sold for less, saw one go for 230 at the marketplace less than a week ago.

Well judging from the bench marks Here The 580 usually gets better fps in most games, but the 7870 uses a much lower power consumption and still competes. So IMO I would get the card that was cheaper. I personally like AMD over Nvidia, but that is just a personal preference They are both great cards and you can't go wrong with either. thumb.gif

You can over clock a 7870 to GTX 580 levels I believe.

the GTX 580 is still pretty awesome, and has had more driver support due to its "age" so it runs pretty stable with what it has. Just make sure you have a PSU that can handle it.

Or if you're feeling lucky, you could overclock that 7870 and pull almost the same performance since the 7870 isn't THAT far behind. But only if you can't find any other gtx 580s for under $350.

It's a tough one, they trade blows at each other each beating the other one by a few FPS depending on the game you are playing and at what settings.

335

Here the GTX 580 just beats it by 1.5FPS,Not noticeable at all though.

328

Here the 7870 pulls ahead, beating the GTX 580 by 2FPS, although, again not noticeable difference,

330

Now here is the decider really, The GTX580 pulls ahead, and this may be noticeable at different points in the game as 20-30 FPS is where you may see lag.

Of course this is just battlefield 3, Here is the other benchmarks...
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7870-review-benchmark,3148-5.html
Just flick through the benchmarks...

It would also be worth mentioning the power consumption, the 7870 has significantly less power consumption

346

The GTX580 manages to use 40 more watts than the 7870, And imo that is a major deciding factor. It also means you can overclock higher with the 7870 than the 580

Hope I helped!

7870 easily imo. The 670 Ti could be interesting too. But I'd never recommend buying older hardware, especially when your only options are either second hand, or paying too much for a new one.

The 7870 beats it straight up when overclocked anyway
