gtx 580 hydro copper 2 cleaning

Hello,

I have a used hydro copper coming and I was wondering how does one normally clean it before connecting it to the loop? Am I able to take it apart or do I just run water through the block after taking it off the card? Or do I even need to take it off the card. I'm going to water cooling for the first time and this is all new to me so thanks in advanced for any help smile.gif

Well, check if the previous owner used any dye with his loop. If he did you should flush out the block a couple of time atleast till the water that comes out is clear. Try and close all four ports on the block after filling it with warm water and shake it a bit from side to side, to try and get all the dye out.

In case he did not use dye, then just clean it out a few times with distilled water and keep an eye on the water that comes out.

Thanks, he said that he only used distilled and a kill coil. I guess I'm supposed to take the block off the card while cleaning it right? Does it come apart in two pieces to inspect the inside as well?

300

Take the block off, spray a can of this into it for awhile to force anything out and clean it up real good. Then make sure to rinse well.

Yup, take the block of the card, but be careful not to spoil or fold the thermal pads which are fixed on the memory and vrm areas. Make sure to remove all the thermal pads and put it back on the card, in the same way it is supposed to be. You can open up the block, but believe me, putting it back together, specially the damn O ring is a pain you can do without.
