upgrade from P67 / 2600K / 580GTX SLI ?

Thread Starter
A friend of mine and myself have a very similar spec build, my opinion is you only buy what you need and if possible, -future proof it as much as you can.. My example question for him was "why upgrade when all your games run 50+ FPS? "... He seems to disagree (knucklehead) so I am asking for my fellow OCN guru's advice... smile.gif

His rig:
P67, 2600K, 8GB XMP 2133 ram, 580GTX in SLI, single Alienware 1920*1080 3D monitor..
He's a die hard gamer, video streamer, P2P user.. no folding, benching, etc..

My rig:
P67, 2500K, 8GB XMP 2133 ram, 580GTX Tri SLI, 3 Monitor surround..
My usage pretty much matches his..

I told him why upgrade to 2011 as I don't see the CPU usage capped with exception of one or two CPU single thread intensive games, I suggested the upgrade path of:

3 Monitor surround..
Go Watercooling !!
or just Save the cash and wait for GK110 (yes I know existing 680 is 33% improvement over 580, but again, his current setup already pushes all games FPS close to 60 or more..)

What do you guys think?

If he's got money burning in his pocket, the biggest game changer would be going 3 monitor surround. Which would also give him a reason to upgrade his gpu, now or eventually.

To be honest I don't see any real need to upgrade from what either of you have, for a long time.
