so i just got the new 8120 eight core 3.1 ghz - Page 3

The 2500k has been 179.99 at Microcenter for almost a year now.

But anyways, get the hyper 212. The best mate for an 8120 is the 212. If you spent the extra for a 2500k, then I would say to get the Frio......

The hyper 212 is amazing, and I've bought several of them. The cooling performance is amazing, and for ~$25 I will continue to buy them forever.

Well when you are going with the highest end cpu from amd why not pair it with a much better cooler? I would understand going with a 212 with a 6100 or the 4 core fx but the 8 core?! When they are oced they run hawt!

Nope. A D-14 is a better cooler no doubt but its hardly "running circles around" a Hyper 212. And a Hyper 212 is quieter.

It is not quieter, one of the main reasons you pay a premium on the d14 is that it is the best in cooling while running silent, IE runs circles round the 212 while being quiet.

While mostly true I will say it does depend on which game your talking about, I switched from a 955 @ 3.8 to my i5 @ 4.9 and in BF3 there was almost no difference maybe ~10fps. However when you're talking about something thats CPU based like WoW I had a dramatic frame rate increase and smoothness in gameplay + fraps was a lot smoother to run. I've always been an AMD guy at heart and will switch back when their offerings are better again.

^ This, you can't judge CPU performance in gaming based on NON-CPU INTENSIVE games, you have to compare it in CPU intensive games to see which gives you more performance, and we all know that Intel wins hands down, don't get me wrong the 8120 isn't a bad CPU, it can keep up with a i5 2500k in some scenarios but was way over hyped when released.

But in WOW, a 8150 isnt very far behind a 2500K at all.

The only games Ive seen Intel run off and leave AMD is in Civilization, Starcraft 2 and Skyrim. Those are really about the only ones where the difference Intel has over AMD is actually one that youd notice in real world gaming.
