Help overclocking my Phenom II X4 955 BE

Thread Starter
Hi I am new to this forum and first I would like to say Hi to all. Im from Croatia so sorry for my bad english. redface.gif
A few days ago I got a new processor,Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition,and i would like to work at 4GHz. thumb.gif
I know that my motherboard has a 4+1 power design so is not very good for overclocking but I saw that some people achieve a good overclock on it. My processor currently working on at 3500mhz with 1.360V, for 3800 MHz he needs 1.43V. And that is a high voltage for that clock.
I see that some people got this processor work at 4000ghz with 1,400V.
Now am I doing something wrong or I need something else to set except multiplier and voltage? NB-freq?? NB voltage??
Thanks in advance. smile.gif

And I would say yes, if you have the option to tinker with NB freq/voltage do it. Phenom II's love NB clocks.

You need to overclock the cpu base clock frequency (Front-Side-Bus). It's default at 200 MHz. The base clock multiplied with the multi is the core clock. In general a high base clock is better then a high multi. It's also good to have a high NB frequency. Respect the timings of HT and the DRAM and check the temperatures not to be too high (70°C). Then you need a program to check the stability. I guess you want to play?

Thx. So what is the safe NB freq and voltage??? I do not want something to blows. weirdsmiley.gif Now my NB freq is 2000mhz and voltage 1.1000V.

I will let someone else chime in on the finer details as I'm not too experienced with tweaking NB since my old AM2 board doesn't even have options for it, lol..

well once you increase your bus speed your nb and ram should naturally increase also but its up to you to figure out which setting is right for you through testing I've gotten away with 2880mhz nb on a 1090t with just 1.20v, but it all depends on testing and patience. What I do is use a overclocking program from asus "ai suite turboVevo" but i don't use it for overclocking just to raise voltages and test the system, when your done with picking out your settings you can just record your voltages and multipliers and put them into bios yourself.

Here's the basic clocks and voltage for a 4.0ghz overclock on a 955.  Every chip is different though, so you might have to adjust these according to how your chip responds to it. And it also depends on if your 955 is a c3 or c2 revision (c3's are better).

CPU: 200 x 20 (4ghz) @ 1.4v - 1.5v (closer to 1.5v usually)

NB: 200 x 13 or 14 (2600mhz - 2800mhz) @1.30v - 1.35v (Adjust the CPU-NB voltage, not the NB voltage!)

HT: 200 x 20 (2000mhz) @ stock volts

You can mess around with different base clocks and multipliers, but the final frequencies should be in the realm of what I posted above.  And always try to keep the HT link between 1900mhz - 2200mhz)

Keep the NB voltage under 1.4v and watch temps as you increase because more CPU NB will add heat to the processor.

You don't overclock the motherboard NB voltage - OC the CPU-NB to raise the NB. Aim for 2800/3000 MHz or higher if possible. Got my 960T to 3100MHz but that's Thuban - Deneb's might top out around 2800Mhz.

Tnx to all. thumb.gif
I have C3 revision.
I will try to play with the diferent settings. One more question: What is the safe cpu voltage for 24/7?? I heard that it was not well over 1.45V for everyday use..worriedsmiley.gif
And,could my motherboard handle this?? http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?model=870%20extreme3

1.55v is the general consensus for max 24/7 voltage, but temps are actually more important, because these chips tend to get unstable over 55C.
