So a friend of mine currently has a Intel Q8200 @2.33 ghz and wanted to see if there are any better processors that he can get. The socket type is a LGA775. Im not a big intel person and dont really know if there are any better processors of this specific socket type and was wondering if you guys could help me find one for him. Is it an OEM board?? there is only a few chips that oem boards will accept by default.

The system specs would help. It makes it easier to choose what would fit the overall system best.

@ asus tweaker, here is some information about the pc: http://meximi.com/product.aspx?productId=1018900413# im not sure whether the mobo is oem or not :\ is there a certain way to find out, ive had this issue before.

@stubass thanks for the recommendation and list, after i find out whether it is oem or not ill actually look into it

: q9650,Um..go to hwbot and look at the cpus on the bottom of the 775 tab.browse > processors > socket 775 > scroll down to the bottom.As usual, the bot is not working right.That's hwbot.org

G43 chipset it appears.

http://ark.intel.com/products/chipsets/36520 look on compatible products.

Though if it's OEM then I'm sure that means the OS installed onto that particular PC is "locked" in a way that the OS will become invalid if critical hardware is changed. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Or did that change with Vista and Win 7?
