Since I am back, I am making changes to this forum that I feel are needed. I figured I'd start here in this thread and change every instance that was E-Peen to pjBSOD as E-Peen hasn't been my name for a very long time tongue.gif

I'll be adding how to debug specific bugchecks, advanced debugging, etc... soon, but those won't be added to this thread because they will be their own threads.

Once you get the hang of the basics, the rest all comes over time with a will to learn (like anything in today's world, really). Most of my knowledge has come doing analysis for the past almost two years, and seeing things as I do it + learning from others who are now great friends / who I analyze with.

Just by doing that, you can essentially solve and work on a fair amount of BSOD related issues, however, when you get into the more technical bugchecks that require some further knowledge, that's when resources such as reading Windows Internals come in.

A will to learn is the most important thing! If you have that, you can do it thumb.gif

Going by the new microsoft page for downloading the tools, WinDBG is now only available as part of the Windows SDK, but I cannot install that. It keeps failing.
Quote:
A problem occurred while installing selected Windows SDK components.

Installation of the "Microsoft Windows SDK for Windows 7" product has reported the following error: Please refer to Samples\Setup\HTML\ConfigDetails.htm document for further information.

Another problem is that the file it is trying to refer me to does not exist as it never got far enough in to create the folder its supposed to be in.

I even tried unchecking everything but the debug tools in the installer options.
