and im gonna be in and out of here alot. I stunt streetbikes and i live in indiana. so yeah...cant really ride at our spots when theres snow, and snow and cold weather is coming soon.

SO

i think im gonna be getting into making my system better.

I recently had a eMachines w2785 I(AMD XP 2700, 2g/b DDR, Nvidia 440 w/ 128mb) and i thought it was a decent setup. I do game but not very much. i do alot of video editing and things like that.

well the POS eMachines board popped the 4 caps right next to the cpu. who knows why. All i know is that my buddy is an elec engineer and makes mobo's for ITT all the time so hes gonna fix it.

basically i bought my new setup without researchin and i think i ****ed myself.

its as follows

eMachines case (want to get diff one soon for cooling)
80gb HDD
MSI AM2 socketed mobo K9VGM-V
AMD Sempron 2800+ (Clock'd to 1.86gb...no probs yet. its never heated up to over 41C)
512 DDR2 stick (one with a big heatsink on it) for now...the 1gb sticks each in my emachine mobo dont work in the DDR2 slots.

also i cant use my nvidia 440 because there are no slots for it on my mobo.

basically i dotn know what im asking then other than where did i go wrong and what can i do to fix it.

here are my future plans over the winter.

32LCD TV double'd use as monitor.
AMD 64-bit 3700+
1 more OCZ 1024MB stick
mid-level graphics card (undecided)
and a new case (undecided)

basically im trying to do the best midlevel cost-performance machine for me.

um..uh...tell me what you think!

also if you wanna check out my riding you can goto www.myspace.com/joshvetter

i got vids and pics and all kinds of stuff. you can even play duckhunt on my page.

Hey and welcome to oc.net

That is some wild riding there

Anyway...
Dig up somemore info..
1. do you currently have 1 RAM stick or 2?
2. Do you have a PCIex16 vid card slot?
3. Whats the PS's watt rating and what is the 12v+ amperage? There may be 1 or 2 listed, total the 2 if so.

hey thanks! i try!

okay:

1. i have one 512 DDR2 stick. i entered it wrong in the sys specs
2. The mobo layout page on my manual say i have PCIex1 and a PCIex2 slot, and then 2 old/normal PCI slots. the PCIex1 is a super small slot and the PCIex2 is the longest one on the board.
3. 380w. I think the amperage is listed right underneath the little gird on the PS. right under +12v it says 18a...does that sound right?

the PS is RAIDMax rx-380k if that helps.

also what is all this i hear bout upping the cpu voltages? i dont understand this...all i did in BIOS was up the FSB from 200-232...haha..the max!

EDIT: im sorry i meant the athalon x2 3800...i get confused with all these numbers. and i have no clue what frequency my ram is running at. i couldnt find it in BIOS...didnt know what to look for.

The MB BIOS won't allow you to OC, just a thing manufacturers do
That MB seems to be a big part of your issues
1. No BIOS adjustments.
2. No PCIe 16x vid card slot
3. That PS probably can't support a higher end vid card anyway.

Your best bet for a good vid editing PC
1. Different MB
2. 2x1G of RAM
3. 500w or more PS that has at least 26a on the 12+v rail(s)

Ahh, good than, you can always up to a high end card so long as the PS can handle it.
Do get 2x1G of RAM, it will do wonders of vid editing
Save the 512 for BU incase you ever need it.
