[Fudzilla] Trinity to be Compatible with FM1 Motherboards and AMD to announce APUs for notebooks on May 15th....

Moreover, the first-generation Lynx desktop platform and Sabine notebook platform for 32nm Llano APUs will be succeeded by the Virgo desktop platform and the Comal notebook platform for 32nm Trinity APUs, respectively. As far as the desktop chips are concerned, Lynx and Virgo platforms should be socket-compatible as the chip packaging is almost the same, even though Trinity APUs will utilize the new Socket FM2. The only difference is that Socket FM1 has one extra pin (905 pins for Llano versus 904 pins for Trinity), but independent sources have already confirmed that Trinity APUs should still be compatible with older FM1 motherboards. At least AMD isn't pulling an Intel (see: Socket LGA 1156 -> Socket LGA 1155 -> Socket LGA 1150, none of which are socket-compatible). The real question is whether or not AMD's notebook Socket FS2 for Trinity APUs will be pin-compatible with the previous Socket FS1 for Llano APUs.

Nice..... This would be so sweet if Trinity is compatible with FM1 boards. That would save me from getting one right away and also have the option to upgrade in the future if I want. This is great news. Hope its true.

If true this is fantastic, I was a bit hesitant to get an FM1 board with trinity around the corner but saw a great deal and bought in.

AMD has always been big on cross socket capabilities. And keeping a particular socket in use for a couple generations. This is good for us low cost budget builders. Even tho pretty much all FM1 boards suck... I am waiting for FM2 boards to come out before upgrading to a APU.

Fudzilla fail big yet again. Take a closer look at this picture,

499x286px-LL-b5226ae7_amd_llano_versus_trinity.jpeg

See the top left portion and the bottom right portion? Tell me how would AMD make it both FM1 and FM2 compatible? When gaps are literally moved?

Trinity cannot be used on FM1 motherboard, despite using the same chipset. Turbo Core 3.0 made it impossible due to new power requirement. There is a reason why Trinity is on FM2, not FM1+. mikezachlowe2004, stop posting full article.

Mike, how much does AMD pay you?

And this is clearly a rumor man, Rumors and Unconfirmed articles is the section. Not Hardware news.

it's obvious based on this picture that they won't be compatible. all i want from trinity is that they can support better graphics than 6670, well i guess it would be 7670. and i want pci 3.0 support. i want a USB 3.0 HEADER ON THE MOTHERBOARD, i want to be able to overclock easily. the phenom ii was easy to overclock. the athlon 64 x2 was easy. even faildozer is easy to oc, but not an apu. i bought mine 10 months ago when there was no a6-3670k, only the a6-3650. now for a budget build, i cant complain, and seeing that add 25% faster with piledriver, 50% faster built in graphics, its got me excited. but what i'll do this time is wait a couple of months so that A. prices come down, B. more research is done, i wanna know what video card i can do to match it up with the apu, i wanna know if it is worthwhile getting a cooler to overclock, what kind of ram is the highest frequency or overclocks well with it. i just hope that trinity isnt as bad as faildozer. i have always liked amd, but there latest generations have been disappointing me. i hope i'm not the only one.
