Which is better, GTX580 or Radeon HD 7950? - Page 2

I actually just got a Sapphire 7950 OC today. I paid $390. I got 1.2GHz on the core and 1.65GHz on the memory with 1.25v. 3DMark11 with my i7 930 @ 4.2GHz was 9050P. Also, it was pushing BF3 in 5760x1080 at 46fps Ultra all settings with no msaa. Smooth as silk compared to my crossfire 6950's. The Sapphire 7950 OC is a BEAST! thumb.gif

7950 is faster and draws less power. I'd go with the 7950 if buying new.

You also can not max BF3 with one 580 or one 7950. Two does it fairly easily of course.

I would say otherwise....@ 1080p resolution a 7950 will max BF3 (ultra everything, hbao and 4x msaa). At least an overclocked one anyways....

You won't hold 60FPS with those settings that high. If your good with 30 though your right.

Well, after much consideration, I've decided to save up a few extra dollars and go for the GTX-680. From what Ive read it outperforms all other cards on the market at the moment, so it seems like a sensible choice.

7950.

Considering that you can get a nearly 50% increase in core speed when you OC it (on a reference cooler, probably more under water) and it uses less power and produces less heat. And has more vram. It does cost slightly more though.

I was also just wondering, as I have overclocked my CPU to 4.6ghz at 1.375V, would my PSU be able to handle the GTX-680? I have read that it draws less power than the 580, which draws similar to the 7950, so I should be ok, yeah?

I have a Coolermaster silent pro 700W PSU.

I'd go for a 680. I had a 7970, but I was not a fan of AMD's drivers this time around.

I think the 680 is worth saving since the $100 extra would be worth it imo.
