PSU recommendation for SLI GTX 680's

Thread Starter
I'm looking into what kinda PSU could power two 680's and a i7 2600k at 1.35 volts 4.5Ghz clock.

Edit: Just some more info, I am running 1 7200RPM HDD and one SSD as well.

I was looking at both

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139029

Do these seem like good enough PSU's for that configuration? Does anyone have experience with either of these models? $99 dollars post rebate for the Cooler Master seems like a great deal, but is it too good to be true?

Both of those PSU's will run Tri-SLI 680's.

The offical recommendation from our PSU guru on these forums is 650W for SLI 680's.

This is all you really need, it's on sale too and even has a massively nice 7 year warranty:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012&Tpk=corsair%20hx650

EDIT: In case you are worried, you will have plenty of overhead to OC both your GPUs and your CPU as well even with the 650W.

Has this person written an article I can read, or is it just posted in a thread? Just interested in his view, reading the guru3d SLI review they recommended 750 minimum. I have no reason to believe guru3d over this guy or vice-versa, just looking to gather all the info I can.

Edit: Thank you for the reply btw

He hasn't written an article on it.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1232664/my-gtx680-psu-wattage-recommendations

He is known has the PSU guru here. If you look at the stickies in the PSU section you'll notice he has written some of them and even made a handy PSU calc.

Also, if you use his PSU calculator you'll see it comes back with a 650W suggestion thumb.gif

a good 650w could handle it, but for the small difference in price i would go with the 750 or 850 to give you some headroom.

Your current GS700 would handle the cards just fine too (672W on 12v+ rail), but I don't know if that PSU has 4-6 pin connectors, so you'd probably have to use adapters.

Current PSU doesn't have 4 6 pin, you think the GS700 would work with molex adapters? hmmmm

Also, is it commonly accepted that molex->PCI-E adapters are safe? I mean it's a $500 dollar graphics card, I'd feel silly blowing it out cause of something like an adapter.

They work, but I'd only use them if you absolutely had to and I wouldn't overclock on adapters. Like you said, it's a $500 graphics card and it'd be best to power it the correct way.

Here is a 750W PSU if you feel like the 650W I listed is a bit low.

On sale as well, and silver-certified.
