Am I expecting too much of my new build?

Hi

Well been a couple of weeks now since i have finished my rig and still not totally happy with it. I havn't had a chance to run any benchies so can't post that up yet.

So i've been playing a few games on higher resolution to see how well she goes. Really struggles with COH on ultra and even high settings. Also for CSS if i crank the resolution up to 1600x900 with or without AA on it runs okay but when i quit back to windows it crashes everytime, and the screen just keeps trying to refresh when i click something.

My first inclination would be that i'm short on memory, although i thought i would be able to run most games well with 1GB dual channel.

I've tried different drivers, and currently using the optimised NGO drivers suggested to me off these forums. But still not change...

I was at a small lan in the weekend and was outpaced by my friends AMD 4200 loading BF2. He said it was probably because i had only 1GB memory. If i crank up the settings for BF2 with no AA it doesn't run totally smooth and feels like it is always being held back by something.

So overall i'm not overly happy with what i paid for so far but understand it can take awhile to smooth out any issues.

Am i expecting too much from my new build? Or should i focus on getting 3dmark and running some tests?

All those games you mention rely heavily upon ram. I would definatly say a lack of ram is what is causing the slow down you are seeing.

Yep, 2GB of RAM is a must for today's highly graphic intensive games.

Thanks, at least that is reassuring to know it is possibly a lack of memory and not something else.

Some advice one guy at the lan gave me was that because i am running C2D 2gb ram is a must?

Agreed ram is extremely important and 1gb is like driving a ferrari with donut spare tires...

Needs more RAM and also a new motherboard. nForce for Intel are crap and since that you only have one VC, why bother with an SLI board? Get an overclocking board.

haha love it..

Thanks guys

Yeah nforce should run okay at stock though? Its just not good for OC?

Its just a matter of me getting enough money to SLI but yes eventually i will also get a new OC mobo. But previous advice was that this mobo would run okay at stock? I was getting desperate to get it up and running as i didn't have a comp for about 6 months and was going through major withdrawals.
