Am I expecting too much of my new build? - Page 4

You have 2 12v lines. Their combining power should be enough to handle your graphics card. Therefor a good quality power supply is required when running high-end cards like yours.

Okay thanks, so now i just need to figure out which ones are the 12v ones. Plus them into my GPU and it might fix it. Either that or it is a faulty card

Your PC specs are really good apart from RAM... I have 1GB ram too and it sucks that it holds you back... 2 GB is soo damn expensive!!! I think you'll find that one BF2, the jittery lag due to the lack of RAM goes away after a while of playing, because your computer is storing the data on your hard drives which need to get into the mode of playing the game.. but then after coming out of the game they are dead slow to load anything for a while when your computer is busy sorting out the Mahusive page file BF2 makes.

That is exactly what happens in BF2, slow at first and then once i'm in it is fine. Then every so often it does another slow down. But still doesn't explain why my mates AMD 4200 can waste my comp in terms of speed and loading...

I think i may also have a faulty card though as on that previous 7900 link someone else described my exact problem.

"colored dots all over screen when launching games/benchmarks (random, doesn't always happen), lockups, blinking desktop if able to exit game/benchmark that's screwing up."

I'm at work at the moment so will run ATI tool as soon as i get home and test out some temps and also the artifacting. I'm not sure how to back up the factory overclock to see if that makes a different but really it should work straight out of the box?

Yeah its probably a faulty card then... that would explain the artifacts, unless its just burning up under extremely high temps. Otherwise, the jittery lag is just the pagefile taking ages to load the data BF2 needs having 1GB sucks, I remember the days when 1GB was an amazing amount of ram to have... in those days i had about 256mb! lol, I'm never going to be top of the range!!!

i have seen some factory oc'd cards that had artifacts right out of the box stands to reason that every now and then one will get through overclocked just a little too much. the card i saw was the BFG 6800GTOC you can get the overclocking option open by using coolbits
