But seriously, look at the PS3 and its "8 cores", look how well it got used rolleyessmileyanim.gif

I'd like to see a lot more RAM in these systems and better GPUs. If this is true I will definitely be switching from Sony to Microsoft.

Your 7970's have a single processor each. And the cores on your GPU do not compare with those on a CPU in any manner you might be implying.

I know this, I'm trying to say a core =/= another core. If it has 16 cores like the title suggests, then it will probably be a marketing gimmick like the PS3 and its 8 cores "cpu"

People will think their 360 has 16 cores and then its 4x better then my quad core 2700k/ivy bridge CPU

I'm just showing the general stupidity of our great wonderful society

If physics were the only thing to benefit from multi-threading, that would be enough for me. I say we load up on cores.

It's starting to look like Sony had the right idea when they paired a fast single core with a bunch of weaker ones. If the need for a strong single core is never going to go away, but you can also offload a bunch of stuff to multiple cores, the hybrid strategy sounds like a winner.

It reminds me of modern GPUs with all their thousands of shader cores.

I call bull****, but we can all dream, right? Instead of "moar cores", mastering native x64 support would probably yield the highest results. Ultimately, something needs to shift the development of software to focus on multithreads and high memory use.

More cores isn't a bad idea, but the SPE's on the Cell didn't have access to system RAM, so they weren't nearly as productive as a fully-featured core. Havok does take advantage of the SPEs on the cell processor though.
