The same applies to games really. We will see more and more games with actual changing weather effects, static backgrounds and movable / breakable stuff, etc etc. Games are getting more and more complicated with lots of different processes going on at the same time even when your game character doesn't move. If you can assign cores to a certain job (and only those jobs) it shouldn't matter what else is going on in the game at the time. Especially with messages going in and out of xbl all the time and cross game chat, stuff that isn't even happening in the game itself.
More cores to me is like having more people around when moving. It has no use when they all want to carry the fridge. Two people is enough. But with everyone precisely organised with tasks etc the job can get done way quicker.
I am not saying moar cores is halleluja for consoles. But in my kine of thinking maybe it could work. Even better than for pcs. Just because a developer can use them all like he wants if he wishes to do so.
Q: what does generate more heat? 4 cores at a higher clock or 8 of the same cores at a far lower clock?

Ideally what you're saying would happen, but in reality it isn't that easy. The main issue is that all of these threads are working with the same memory, so no two threads can perform changes to the same data at the same time. If you have an AI unit on one thread that wants to walk around a box, but you have a physic thread moving that box, and you have a gameplay thread in which a player has a rocket effect that is supposed to blow the box into pieces, not all of those can happen at the same time.

There's no way a 700 dollar PC built right now would display better graphics then a next-gen console in 2013.

Sorry I'm with you guys totally on PC's providing a better experience but these consoles are going to look amazing when they come out. As a result we will get much better ports. Games will become demanding on hardware again as well.

doh.gif No on said a $700 PC would be better than next gen consoles. However someone did say a $700 PC would just about manage the graphics and performance of current gen. Besides no one can guaranty if a $700 will or won't display similar game play graphics and performance compared to the next gen consoles.

Uh yeah I can gurantee that.

And if you really think otherwise your either not paying attention or oblivious to the past.
