um my pc was 700$ and i guarantee it runs better than the next gen consoles

AAALLLSSSOOO

gtx560 is now 150$
i5-2500 is now 180$
8 gigs of ddr3 ram would be 50$
mobo can be 75$
case could be 30$
psu could be 30$
mouse and keyboard set can be 15$
=530$ on a system that does BF3 Ultra 1080p at 30fps solid.

disregard following because consoles dont come with these
1080p 23inch monitor 150$
mic $3
headset similar to turtle beach headsets 15$

Next gen consoles will probably be as strong as a core 2 duo and a gt250.
At most.

A $700 rig will blow a PS3/XBOX 360 out of the water right now in terms of gameplay performance and quality. And im sure when the new consoles come out a $700 rig built in that time era will still beat it.

Current gen consoles are only slightly below core 2 duo/250 in overall performance. There's no chance your PC will be able to run games on the level of next gen consoles especially once year 2 and 3 roll along in their life cycle. Look at a game like Uncharted 3 and tell me an Athlon x2 and a 1900XT could run it. No chance.

AMD has a 16c 100w 2.2ghz CPU and a 16c 65w 1.6ghz CPU. So feasibly they could put one in an xbox and keep within a launch parameter system power draw.

You know, I forgot the AMD Server parts...Could happen, actually.

Are you expecting ms to use a non-fanless CPU there? I doubt that they will put anything that uses more power than Intels 17w ulvs.

..Except the 360s CPU was a fairly hot running PowerPC chip to begin with..And it was actively cooled, sure, the fan wasn't bolted to the heatsink but it had a shroud going directly to it. No different.

Besides no one can guaranty if a $700 will or won't display similar game play graphics and performance compared to the next gen consoles.

Uh yeah I can gurantee that.

And if you really think otherwise your either not paying attention or oblivious to the past.

Except if they go the Nintendo route with the cheapest hardware.

Have you used a recent console? I have a GTX 470 (Tad faster than the GTX 560) and it runs far better than a 360 or PS3...I mean, I can max out nearly every game at 1080p with 4x AA whereas the consoles struggle for 30fps at 720p and far lower res textures. My PC cost me crap all too, AU$30 for the board, AU$130 for the GPU (AU$70 for a full cover waterblock), free CPU, etc.

Semi accurate reports Sony is once again "shooting for the moon" (their quote not mine) and this rumor clearly shows whether it's true or misunderstood that Microsoft is likely doing the same thing. I doubt the HD manufacturers take the Nintendo route.

I also doubt you can run most games with 4xMSAA because I can barely do that with a better CPU and GPU. At least I can barely do it in Dx11 games which are the only games that really show a signifcant graphical upgrade over console games and even that is excluding the really good looking exclusive console games like God of War and Uncharted. Most AAA games nowadays are almost the same graphically across all platforms with the exception of resolution. Mass Effect 3 for example is literally the exact same assets across PC, 360 and PS3. In fact most games nowadays are like this and those that are different usually show very small differences and most of the time are in lighting and effects not textures or actual game assets.

Also the 470 retailed for a lot higher when it was new and relevant so I don't know why you would even bring up the price you paid for it. A quick ebay search shows that most 470s are still going for more then 130 dollars now anyway.
