Advice needed on installing Windows Server 2008 for a home network

Thread Starter
Hey all, I have only the basic knowledge about servers and want to expand my knowledge by installing Windows Server 2008 on my secondary desktop. What I would like to do is set up the secondary computer as a server that I can experiment on with other applications like sharepoint server (I have to learn sharepoint for a job) and get a better understanding of active directory and permissions. I will probably use this server as a file/print share server for the other computers we have here at home (aside from this server, we have 1 laptop and 3 other desktops). I have cable internet and use a wireless router which currently we have all the computers sharing via Windows 7 Home Network settings. I also have a few terabyte drives I plan to use in the server.

Any suggestions or advice on how I should go about this would be appreciated. Software is not an issue, I have loads available to me for free through my school.

Thanks!
