1.65 v RAM BSOD

Thread Starter
Hey guys, so I have 1.65 volt RAM in my computer, the corsair xms3 8gb 1333mhz 240 pin, 2x4gb set. The rest of my specs are in my sig of course. But anyway, I often get Memory related BSODs, and I am wondering if it is because I need 1.5 volt RAM instead of 1.65 volt RAM. Thanks in advance, any help is very much appreciated

what is the BSOD code ???? it may maybe due to overvolting of your RAM to 1.65v i think that may not be the reason but that can really be a problem buddy redface.gif

I forget the exact code but they are always Memory BSODs. usually it says memory management, or something about a PFN list, or a page header. But after researching all the codes on Microsoft sites they always indicate a Memory problem. I have heard that 1.65v RAM isn't good for my specs. Is there any way I can underclock it to 1.5 v to fix the problem?

This.

navigate to your C:\Windows\Minidump and attach your dump file, it would be very helpful.

1.5v is the standard voltage of your RAMs so you might want to go into your BIOS and lower the voltage.

I will do that as soon as I get home. But is it even possible that it is clocked at 1.65v? Because I never checked in the BIOS to see its voltage, is it possible that it is clocked at 1.5 and its just bad RAM?

that can happen but not that frequently rolleyes.gif

Either way, if your voltage is at 1.65v then lower it to 1.5v.

And then run a memtest86 to check if your mempry sticks are faulty.

hmmm thats strange.. but i would see if you can get the error code, then you can figure it out from there. In the past ive ran 1.65v ram on z68 chipsets at stock speeds just fine. Used the 2x2gb and 2x4gb xms3 sets. Though now i use 1.25v g-skill sets, from what i read 1.65v is about the limit of what you should be using on 1155 sockets cpus (sry just woke up so might sound weird >_> )

1.65 is the limit, yes.

But there's no point in having extra voltage on your RAMs if you are not overclocking them. That would just generate more heat/pressure to the RAMs which is not neccessary.

yup, well never said it was good or the best idea, but it should still be okay to run it even if it is 1.65. tongue.gif Some people might have extra ram modules, but usually i recommend using 1.35-1.5v with the 1155 since the 1.5 is recommended voltage to use with sandy thumb.gif

Also if you go from 1.5 to 1.65v you increase wattage usage by 1-3 watts depending biggrin.gif
