Buying my first Nvidia rig

Thread Starter
I got my pc an HD4650 back when it came out and its been the same ever since. I decided to upgrade everything and this time i'm moving to Nvidia. But I'm a noob at this and am sure to make the wrong decision without help.

I'm using BF3 as a milestone. I'm looking for a single card which will run BF3, all settings cranked to max at a CONSTANT 50-60fps. 1920x1200 res.

at a minimum, a GTX560Ti 448 core overclocked. A 570, 580 or best yet, the 680 if you can afford it.

What processor do you have?

Previous poster is right, you'll want at least a 560ti-448 core at minimum if you want to run BF3 at that resolution maxed. I run BF3 on my 560ti-448 at 1080p with textures and mesh effects set to ultra, everything else high, 16x AF, no AA AO or motion blur, and I get around 100 FPS on average.

No single card will do 60fps with ALL settings maxed. Without AA... then yes.
Like mentioned, the 560ti 448 core is a pretty good deal. Then it goes 570 -> 580 -> 590 (dual). Depends on your budget.

edit. And of course the 680 goes somewhere between 580 and 590. Totally forgot about that... lol biggrin.gif

1920x1200 you will need at least 1.5gb of vram to run things smooth. I would recomend a GTX 580 for a single card setup since prices have dropped a little bit and it's still a great card with 1.5gb or better yet the 3gb version. I have a 560ti setup in sli and when things get crazy the vram wall drops me down to the low 30fps at 1920x1200 and my memory usage is at 99% mad.gif

This caught my eye: http://www.gainward.com/main/vgapro.php?id=454

Will that do the constant 50-60fps?

Specs: http://www.gainward.com/main/product/vga/pro/p00454/p00454_datasheet_11584d2e9694dad60.pdf?s=978

Yes, on ultra settings that card overclocked will give you a constant 50-60fps at 1920x1200 without a problem.

Funny because in my almost vain effort to understand different specs and benchmarks I keep coming back to that very one. Thanks for the help.
