I actually went to a Best Buy store two days ago to buy an (albeit over priced) USB wireless adapter for a friend's PC. The person who I talked to had a long conversation with meon mechanical keyboards and why they are so awesome, which was pretty cool. I guess it all depends on the stores, all the previous encounters with BB employees before that were absolutely retarded.

Same here. There used to be a CompUSA and Circuit City in my area. Now it's only BB, Walmart and Target.

You guys say that brick and mortar stores can't compete with prices.. Well I sometimes find that things are often cheaper or the same price at WalMart....

WalMart has economies of scale and diversified in staple/luxury low/mid/higher-end merchandise.

BB products are MUCH more limited in scope.
Once again...

If they want to survive they are going to have to turn themselves into more of a Fry's. They have to bargain oriented, because every year consumers are becoming more and more tech savvy, as that happens they will be more on the lookout for bargains and less on the look out to get fleeced by Best Buy's $99 "clean up" service when buying a new machine.

I'd like to see a market big enough to support Best Buy, I really would, but they need to get competitive. I don't know who they have had running the place but the stewardship of the company has been serious lacking.

They took Geek Squad, which used to actually have a good reputation, and turned it into a sales machine. They already had a sales team, one would assume they brought in the Geek Squad to give themselves a portion of the repair market. Repairs do lead to sales, but when you take the focus off of the repair part and apply it solely to the sales part, well you've just destroyed what you bought in the first place.

Hopefully someone new can come in and turn things around for the company.

The man isn't hurting.

The problem with Best Buy's brick and mortar locations is the lack of choice and the lack of current inventory. I remember buying a graphics card from BB 10 years ago. They had a whole aisle devoted to them. Recently checked a store and they had just PNY products on a single shelf down the peripheral aisle and nothing was current.

They started trying to be like Fry's but with a quarter of the retail space. I have no clue what there revenue is on vacuums, coffee pots, washer/dryers and refrigerators but I do not go to Best Buy for any of these products and wish they were not in their stores and they devoted more to PC related items.

With any luck, the CEO that replaces him will take one for the team and make BB more competitive in the market, which will mean better prices and service... hopefully. probably not though.

You have to remember, that the current prices help sustain the stock prices for the holder. Most people would bail on the company if they all of a sudden held a decent markup on products and stopped gouging.

Maybe its just me but i would be very sad to see BB shut down. I still love having a massive tech store just to get hands-on time with new gadgets and tvs. You cant get that with amazon...
