Idle Sapphire 7950 TOO HOT?

Thread Starter
It Idle's at around 43c for some reason!

This card is supposed to have very low temps compared to the GTX 680 counter-part.

So why is mine so hot on idle? Or is this considered cold?

43C isnt too hot if its in a low air flow case.
Full load temps more important.

I have a Haf 932 Advanced Full Tower case.

With additional fans. That's why I'm worried. I know 43 isn't toooo hot. But I want to know why this hot on such low usage?

high idle temps have never killed a card...I wouldn't worry about it unless it is having a significant affect on your load temps.

If your load temps are alright, your gravy thumb.gif

Do you have more than one monitor enabled? Clocks go up and idle temps will rise.
My 2x GTX 560 Ti has Galaxy's twin blade cooling it idles at around 30c with only one monitor connected, when i hook up the second one it idles at around 40~45 degrees. how many monitors do you have connected. and are you running SLI? a sig rig would help you know

Yeah I do...hmm maybe having a 32" copying my main display does that?
For stock cooling that's pretty good. Non-reference cooling like boyd is using performs better.

I'm idling at 45C, so I wouldn't worry if I were you.

Edit: Noticed my card was only downclocked to 500mhz when idle. Loaded a profile in Afterburner and it dropped to 300mhz idle, and 36C. May be due to the 12.4 open CL driver I'm using.

Your ambient temps will likely be different from reviewers' ambients. Don't take review numbers too seriously; only use review numbers for ballpark figures.
43c is absolutely fine.
