Should I Buy It?

Thread Starter
My buddy is selling a Dell PE 860 SC server. Comes with 2x 146gb SAS drives. He wants $150 for it. I don't really know prices on servers at all so I'm asking you.

Putting it in HTPC section because I plan on putting a larger drive in it and using it as an HTPC for my main TV in my living room. Trying to start cutting cables so I figured it'd be a good option. What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance, Pork.

Personally for a HTPC I'd look to build new and take a pass on that setup, for several reason power consumption, performance, upgradeable etc.For $150 you could start with something like this(below). Get 4 to 8GB's of memory and your set depending on how much cord cutting your doing as of now.

or

Or you could just go with this board and get the chip separately A6 3300 or A6 3500.

it know it probably uses passive cooling and will roar like a v8 engine, if you do get it and use it as a HTPC then keep it well away from your TV.. like in a basement or where ever thumb.gif

No, do not get it for a HTPC. Not very power efficient, probably loud and the biggest is the video output, onboard is ATI ES1000 (Rage XL equivalent), and the expansion slots are not PCI-e 16 (they appear to be only 1 4x and 2 8x).
