Pc doesn't boot after being OC'ed.

Thread Starter
So i overclocked my pc the other day to a stable 3.4 ghz (AMD Athlon II 640 x4) It was running fine the whole day, the next day i pressed the power on button; nothing happened. ( my motherboard normally makes a beeping noise when it is booting but it didn't make that noise) and windows also didn't boot, it's just a black screen. I've tested my RAM, HDD and GPU but it is none of these. My motherboard (Foxconn am88gmx) has a clear CMOS pin/button on it to reset the bios, but this didn't work either. So now i have to buy a new motherboard or processor but i don't know what it is that isn't working. Anyone out their that could help me? I have enough money to buy a new processor and motherboard but if i can fix it there is no reason to buy new parts. Thanks.

Hey srry to hear that. Do the fans still spin up? I never used a mb that had a button to reset cmos, so im not sure if thats just as good as the old way. I would suggest doing it the old way, taking the pin out and putting it on pin 2-3 if not mistaken and remove the battery for 30 sec then put it back on pin 1-2 and see if it boots up? Just a suggestion, i doubt the processor would have fried or the mb, unless u did some serious over voltage.

I've done that about 5 times and it doesn't work, yes the fans still spin up. I didn't even up the voltage much. I really don't know what the problem is. Any help is appreciated.

Mobo VRM probably gave up since you said you OC'd the system. If your mobo doesn't have a good phase power for OC'ing
sometimes this will cause the mobo to burn if you push the vcore to the limit.

Possibly a new mobo but you have to investigate the CPU also.

Instead of using the reset CMOS try to remove the battery while your computer is unplugged from the wall.
Remove it for 2 minutes and put it back it.
Replug and then start your computer.

This^^^ I also power my rig up without the CMOS battery in for a few seconds.

well, seeing your picture, using the stock cooler is never a good idea, foxconn is pretty bad at oc'ing, and this has happened to me before. if you have an 8 pin connector on the mobo, but only have 4 pins in, it will boot but not overclock. i am not sure if this is the case, but if it is then this is your problem. my suggestions are to get a better psu, and a better heatsink. i overclocked the heck outa my old athlon ii x4 and i never had a problem. my phenom ii did the same thing your athlon is doing.
