Should I get an SSD if I'm still on Sata 2?

Thread Starter
Crucial M4 64gb is really tempting me for $60 mad.gif Not sure if I should go for it or not.... what speeds should I expect (real world info, I don't really trust the manufacturer specs >_>)

I'm only going to put Windows and BF3 on it. Probably along with Chrome and some other really small programs like TS3 (nothing major).

No man, it will be slower than a HDD. Don't do it. And for only $60 why would you even consider it?

My crucial M4 128Gb is blazing fast. When I did the repair tool for BF3 because of a corrupt file, I scanned through at 70mb/sec at the low side. So I got my game repaired and running in a couple minutes compared to a HHD that would have been at maybe 5-6mb/sec

So do it!

We installed a Crucial M4 64mb to a friend's P55 rig and it capped out at 285mb/s. On my C300 when I had SATA 2 on my X58 motherboard it was capping out at 250-275mb/s and it was still noticeably faster than my F3 HDD back then. Booting up was fast as well as access time with browsers and such, definitely worth it. When I side graded to Z68 and got SATA 3 and it was going faster but I didnt notice it any faster over my old motherboard, the only thing you will notice is maybe transferring speeds/installing/load time going from SATA 2 to 3 but other than that I would go ahead and jump for it because later on you can easily upgrade to a new platform and it will already support it. smile.gif

I'm only going to put Windows and BF3 on it. Probably along with Chrome and some other really small programs like TS3 (nothing major).

Get it. Heck it's even worth it on SATA 1! Completely revived my Dell laptop from 2003 :-)

By the way, where did you find it for $60? That's a great price!
