Hi everyone I am new to this forum and have seen loads of posts about FX overclocking. Could anyone help me into why my FX won't overclock, I read the guide on how to overclock FX-8120/8150. My specs are as below:
ASUS M5A79 PRO
DDR3 Eudar 1333mhz RAM
1x 7200 RPM SATA HDD
1x DVD RW+
I am pretty sure my PSU can handle a overclock. I have a Xigmatek Thors Hammer with push and pull configuration, but I am not sure why my FX won't overclock.
I HAVE to use brute force with voltages to get the thing to overclock. Anything below 1.4v and I will have lock ups, no BSOD just lock ups. Sometimes I get a BSOD about a "clock interval was not received".
I HAVE to use load line calibration and phase mode extreme to get any overclock..
First Overclock settings that SEEM stable on prime95
DRAM volt 1.50
CPU VID 1.45 (CPU Vcore spikes to 1.50)
NB volt 1.2
CPU/NB Volt 1.25-1.30
Second Overclock settings
DRAM volt 1.55-1.60
CPU VID 1.45 (CPU Vcore spikes to 1.55 sometimes)
NB volt 1.2
CPU/NB Volt 1.30-1.35
These are the settings I have to use, I basically have to max out the voltages to get a stable overclock over 4 Ghz. To be perfectly honest overclocking using the FSB was much easier than using the multiplier. So I don't know where or what I am doing wrong.
I do get lock ups if I push over 4.5 Ghz. Without that vcore hitting 1.52 I will get lock ups.
I thought my NB was running hot to stop an overclock higher than 4.5 Ghz, so I let the thing cool, open my case, do overclocking. I had a lock up on when Windows logged in. Switched the PC off, touched the NB and VRMs,.. warm, not hot. They do run very hot, if you leave your finger on it will burn you, but then I do get an overclock up to 4.5 Ghz with the above settings.
Errors, how far I get
I usually can get into Windows, log in, after 5 mins say it will lock up. If I run Prime95 it will lock up straight away or give out ILLEGAL SUMOUT or FATAL ERROR. I hardly get BSODs straight away, the only one was mentioned, Clock Interval Not Received.
I thought I would try the settings posted in the BD OC Guide, no luck. I really do need high voltages, but I can't understand why. Hopefully someone can see where I am going wrong.
So hoping someone can shed light on this, thanks everybody. If this is in the wrong section I am sorry!
