Adventures in Upgrading and FX-6100 Overclocking - Page 37

At 4.5GHz load V of higher than 1.4 is too high IMHO. The 6100 is capable of hitting that speed with load V of around 1.3825 or slightly higher so to go up to 1.45 is just too much I think.

I guess 1.4750 is out of the question for 4.5ghz then tongue.gif

Why is it that I need to bump up the voltage to get it stable?

My other OC profile I have got multi 19 bus 230, with CPU VID of 1.425 (vcore hits higher), any lower voltages and I get prime errors. No lockups fortunately, just errors or illegal sumout.

Maybe something to do with the VRM for that motherboard? I don't know.

Here's where I'm at right now.

450

450 (completely forgot to tape off the center of the A. Not sure if I'll leave as is or go back and paint it black.)

450

I'm having a little difficulty with the top panel. I'm going to have to sand the paint off, fill in some defects with filler and repaint. The H40 comes tomorrow so I'll finish assembling it then.

Hey, I'm thinking about a new mobo for this chip. Which you think I should get or any other suggestions:

MSI 990XA-GD55, AMD 990X
Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3, AMD 990X

£85 I want to spend. Any other suggestions would be great, I don't mind any good Asrock boards or anything ASUS smile.gif

For that money there are some FX boards in your range. If they're more expensive by $50+ or more through british sites and you can't get a site like newegg to ship to you we can discuss options on how to get it to you (like buying it and shipping it to you etc). By checking currency rates that means your celing is $134 USD.

The asrock 990FX extreme3 would be similar to my board but without the fatal1ty branding and a few other features. Right now $119 + shipping
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157281

I've always been a gigabyte guy and the 990FX pro is my first Asrock and I have to say I really like it. I don't like that I had to pay shipping to send the board back for RMA but from what I understand that's common with most MB manufacturers. They did RMA it quickly though and the process was very easy.

Here are some more,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138341 $129.99 + shipping and it has good reviews.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128510 $139.99 + free shipping but I don't know if the free shipping would hold the same if it's shipped to there etc.

Well the Asrock 990FX Extreme4 is about £85 over here, is the Extreme4 better than the Extreme3? The Extreme3 is cheaper.

Also the Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3 is £88 over here, but the GA-990FXA-UD3 is £65 on eBay refurbished.

Is the Asrock990FX Extreme4 a good choice you think?

Also out of interest do you know the max TDP of them? GA-990XA-UD3 and the Asrock.

Do you know if they're both UEFI BIOS and also do either support fan controlling via the fan headers?

Gigabyte is still using bios on their boards. Asrock has switched to UEFI with the 990 boards.

The Extreme 4 is basically the Extreme 3 with added features.

Here's the comparison of the 3:

352
352
352

Honestly in my opinion I for the money I think the extreme 4 is the better buy when y ou look at the features. And that's a great price for it. Newegg here has it at $144.99 + $9.48 shipping.
