I have done all you asked in the guide.
Disconnected all but SSD, changed to AHCI and then booted up the windows installation, but it tells me "windows cannot be installed to disk".

The only difference to your guide is that i'm using a installation dvd

I don't think you are reading it right...

You skipped a whole part.

Booting and partitioning of Windows 7:
  1. Boot from your Windows 7 installation media.
  2. After booting you see the Install Windows 7 screen, press Shift + F10 to open a command prompt.
  3. At the command prompt, type Diskpart, press Enter.
  4. Type List Disk, press Enter.
  5. Type Select Disk # (where # is the number your drive shows up as), press Enter.
  6. Type Clean, press Enter.
  7. Type Convert MBR, press Enter.
  8. Type Exit, press Enter.
  9. Close the Command Prompt window.
  10. Click the "Next" button.
  11. Click the "Install now" button.
  12. Put in your product key and click the "Next" button.
  13. Accept the terms and click the "Next" button.
  14. Choose "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)."
  15. Select the partition and click "Drive options (advanced)"
  16. Click "New" and then click the "Apply" button. Two partitions should appear. Click the bottom partition.
  17. Click the "OK" button and then click the "Next" button.
  18. From then on follow the on screen instructions till you get to the desktop.

I found this:
Quote:
- Start Windows setup
- When you get to the page to select a drive/partition to install you will need to load the Raid drivers
- Insert your Driver disc for your motherboard
- Click Load Driver
- Find the correct driver on the disc and select this
- Click Next
- You should now see a list of available drives, but the error: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk (Show details)"
- Re-insert the Windows 7 DVD back into the drive
- The is the critical part...... Click Refresh

So you may need to load the drivers at install: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/raid_windows.aspx

possibly try both the chipset and the raid drivers.

Thanks Sean i'll try all of that.
there might be a problem with my controller?? Because in AHCI mode, my vertex 4 doesnt get detected at all in my bios. It just disappears.

I downloaded your download link, is that only for USB drives? Because when i burn iso image to a disc, it doesnt work properly. It says some files are missing from it

A few others had the same issue with different drives.

Try a BIOS update?

No. It shouldn't have anything missing, I have used those ISOs myself a bunch of times. How are you burning it to the DVD?

I have the latest BIOS frown.gif

Burning it as an iso image at the slowest speed. When i try out the image by double clicking the D: drive within windows, it doesnt load anything it says some files are missing that prevents it from starting up. Ill try to re burn it

i'm just about ready to give up frown.gif

Is AHCI really that good?? As you can see from my as-ssd it is only a few hundred points.

Is ACHI gonna help that score a lot??

cheers
