I know, but I'm saying up until the point that a pixel is so small that you can't actually see one even if it's red and the entire background is white, then there's still room for improvement.

Nice display resolution though. Paired with a 10-bit panel, that is actually quite stunning.

I was mistaken - It's not that bad since it still has the same 2160p height resolution, so 1080p and 720p stuff will still scale perfectly. I was mixing it up with 4096x2304 - now that's a resolution I REALLY hate. tongue.gif

However, this may flub up the 7680x4320 standard that's currently in the works for future stuff, unless they also make it 8192x4320. (the thing is, 4320p can perfectly scale 2160p, 1080p, 720p, AND 480p, which is just pure awesome)

I don't know if it's important that you can't see it when it's there. I'd say it's more important to just not see any jagged lines without using anti-aliasing. If it's to the point where you can't tell if there's a spot there or not, you'd probably be wasting processing power when you're playing games. But that's just for games.

Also, I don't know how feasible it is to make a display not be able to see a dot in the middle of a sea of another color. The way the human eye works, you see contrast and edges much better than you do a normal image. So if you put a spec in the middle of the screen, your eye might detect it even if you can't see pixels in a normal picture. So to fulfill your criteria, perhaps a black dot on a white background would be the best color choice. That, and also make it move around.

A white pixel on a black background stands out MUCH more, assuming you're not in a very bright environment and you're using a display technology that can actually display black as black (such as CRT or OLED).

What I said makes perfect sense, perhaps you should just try a little harder at understanding it? Until we can't see an individual pixel, e.g, one red pixel on an otherwise purely white background, there's still room for improvement. Or in other words, until we can't see any aliasing in games whatsoever without AA.

That's kind of the same thing. When you can't see an individual pixel which stands out (i.e, red on a white background, or even black as you say) then we'll be at the point when you can't really see any aliasing in games any more, at all.

Human visual acuity is measured in terms of line pairs per arc minute. It is NOT measured in DPI, PPI, etc., those are values we derive by calculating the number of pixels you'd have to put inside an inch such that, when viewed at the recommended distance, it can fill our rods and cones.

 

The PPI in the iPhone works well for us when viewed at 12". When viewed at 4", you can start to see pixels. When viewed at 5 feet, it is massive overkill.

 

Also, the test of reaching acuity limit is a line pair of black and white. Once it is no longer distinguishable as a black line and a white line, you've reached resolution limits.
