Horizontal Accessory Mount Question

Thread Starter
When using the XL horizontal accessory mount bar on the motherboard side of a TH10, does it stop you from also putting in a 5.25 bay device where the bar connects at the front of the case? I have plans for all 13 bays, and want to know if this would stop me from using one of them.

Same question for the PSU side of the case also. If I have a horizontal accessory bar mounted, would it stop a harddrive cage from also being installed where the bar connects?

Can a horizontal AND a vertical accessory mount bar be used at the same time on the same side of the case....or do you have to pick one or the other?

And one final question....I've read the brief bullet point differences between the XL and HD accessory mounts, but I don't think I follow. Can you elaborate a little on the differences, or maybe use an example about how they can be used differently?

In answer to your questions: both accessory mounts can be used with 5.25" bay devices and PSU's. It won't clear the HDD mount on the PSU side. They might need a bit of trimming if you use an exceptionally wide radiator. They can't both be used at the same time. The HD is a much heavier version (stronger) of the XL mount. The XL version is an "L" design made from .090" aluminum while the HD version is a "C" channel design made from .125" aluminum. The horizontal HD version is more commonly used and only then to support a heavy object. Most builds can get along just fine the the standard XL accessory mounts

Thanks for quick response. Want to clarify to make sure I'm understanding correctly. I'm planing to use the pedestal with two rads. With the TH10 on top of the pedestal, I still want to create bottom to top airflow, and want some fans on the bottom of the case pointing up. I don't want to use openings on bottom of case that would be pulling in hot air from pedestal. I think I need to create some space (just an inch or two) between case bottom and the fans. So I could use the horizontal accessory mount just a few inches from bottom of the case, and use it to mount some fans pointing upwards.

I think you are telling me that the bar would not block use of any of the 5.25 bays on the front motherboard side of the case. Correct?

I think you are telling me that I would lose one of the potential spots to mount a HDD cage on the PSU side of the case. Correct?

And thank you for the explanation on the XL vs HD. Since I would be using them only for fans, the XL would probably be fine. I'm in my final stages of planning what I want to buy....and I just want to make sure I get it as "right" the first time as possible.

The TH10 has eight 120mm fan mounts on the bottom of the case. I'd probably use one on the PSU side for tubing management and put 7 fans on the rest, given what you're trying to do. That will do a better job of pulling air up from the pedestal and eliminates the need for the horizontal accessory mounts (as well as all the fan mounts you would need) and probably look a lot less busy as well.

Thanks for ideas. My idea was to isolate the pedestal since there will be a lot of hot air in there. Didn't want to pull that air up into the main case....hence the idea of fans that are raised up a little bit from the floor.

Can you confirm that I could do this on the MB side without losing use of any of the 5.25 bays?

Can you confirm that I WOULD lose the ability to install a harddrive cage on the PSU side wherever the horizontal mount was attached?

Ok - got it. I misunderstood what your were trying to do redface.gif The horizontal brace will work on the MB side even if the bays are being used. On the PSU side, there will be interference at the fan mount for one of the HDD positions. The other HDD locations should work. It wouldn't be a big job to trim it a bit though. The vertical mount should work on either side.

If there are any pictures from CaseLab owners out there who have done something similar with the Horizontal or Vertical Accessory mounts....post them! Would love to see what you've done!
