2x1Gb vs 4x512Mb Question

Thread Starter
From a performance standpoint, would 4x512Mb function as well as 2x1Gb? Cost generally favors the 2x1Gb, but that is not a factor for this question.

I think the 4x 512 MB would be faster or maybe more stable since there is a smaller ammount of memory per modules, and, it would run a faster dual channel I think.

previously it was that smaller modules could run tighter timings, but now there are some very fast 1gb sticks out there, also, there are a few motherboards that dont seem to like overclocking when both channels are populated, again making 2x1gb a better go.
