can this budget system be overclocked?

and is it worth getting a hyper 212+ for it? Is the motherboard overclockable?

http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=26821528

I'm getting the gpu and hdd elsewhere, 1tb and HD6850 or 6870.
If someone has a better bang for buck build please link me to it.

That board is likely only a 3 phase power model. You won't be doing any crazy overclocking, however at the $26 price the 212+ is hard to pass up even for light OC use.

Honestly now that I think of it, the Athlon II lineup's ran super cool even with stock cooling. Not sure if you purchased that system yet but you might want to reconsider and go with an i3 2120 or similar. An athlon triple core is really outdated and will struggle with modern use.

That build list looks great other than CPU and Motherboard. Both are "ultra" budget minded. Swap CPU out with an i3 2120 and a micro ATX Z68 or P67 board and you will be set! thumb.gif

Does the i3-2120 overclock well? What is the cheapest mobo that will be good for it? Thanks.

The i3 2120 doesn't overclock at all however it knocks the socks off of any athlon II chip (even the quads) at stock speeds. If the system linked above says anything about your budget then you will need to expand a couple more hundred dollars to get a black edition phenom or K series i5 / i7. Yes that motherboard you linked would be fine for an i3 2120 build paired with a 6850/6870 graphics card.

Why a Z68 or P67 if I can't overclock?

These are both about the same price now, which would you guys/gals choose?

P and Z chipset boards are generally higher quality than an H or Q. Plus have some nicer features like UEFI Bios, SSD caching, etc.

Edit: Looking at the price difference you can go with an H series I suppose. It will still make a good home for an i3 and a mid range GPU.

Also, you realize that last shopping cart link had 2 motherboards and 2 kits or memory right?

Another Edit: Get this power supply and save 20 bucks. All rosewill power supply's are 15% off with promo code RWPSU15 for the next 4 days.

Is there a cheaper case that will fit an hd6870 and comes with at least one intake and one outtake fan?

See above for different power supply suggestion. Also, I would not go much below $50 for a case. The quality really drops off after that. If you don't mind a micro ATX case go with this one. Other than swapping the power supply and if you want to pick a different case, that looks like a great budget machine.

Edit: nevermind on the case suggestion. It will be a tight fit with any graphics card over 8"

Stick with the rosewill or this $10 off promo code with that one.
