I want to know how far I can overclock it while making it stable. Right now I have it overclocked at FSB to be 320 and stock is 266. I changed it in the BIOS. I tried going higher but over 320 it barely makes it to windows and crashes within 5mins if it even reaches it. At 320 it only crashed on me once after about 4 hours. TAT tells me while idling the temp is at low 50s and on full load its at low 60s.

Now I want to overclock it as far as possible but I want the cpu to last about a year. If anybody has recommendations on what to do that would be great. This is my 1st overclocking experience. If someone wants to recommend a different heat sink because maybe it's too hot then recommend away.
If you have a good cooler and airflow you can get it up to 3.4Ghz easily.
I only had to change the fsb up to 379mhz and set the RAM to 533 and voila, 3.4Ghz all the way! and stable, too.

Ok what I have tried is the original heatsink while leaving it overclocked and it increased the temperature by 10 degrees while idling.

How did you set the ram? Also what are your temps while idling and workload?

You guys think the reason it keeps freaking out on me when I overclock passed 320 is because it gets too hot? If so do you guys recommend I get a different cooler? I was thinking about getting this one: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16835106061

No man, I don't think heat is your issue here. Personally I think it's your ram. When these guys say run a divider, they mean you run your ram slower so it won't crash your overclock. In your bios, select a lower ram speed and try to oc again. Those temps you stated in your first post don't seem all that bad for TAT. They could be better but not outta control, and I seriously doubt they're what's holding you back here. That cpu should clock alot higher, even with those temps.

It could be your psu like mentioned as well, but I have a feeling it's your ram. You can also increase the voltage to your ram as well, sometimes that will help with stability, just as it does with a cpu. Just make sure you're not turning up voltages to your cpu or ram too high. You also should read some of the stickies and tutorials around here for overclocking info. You're not going to learn it all in this thread, some must be learned on your own. Good luck!

If you want to know if the ram is what's crashing, run memtest86+ for a good while. Google it

Looks like it isn't the psu after all. The system memory multiplier was on auto and I manually put it to 2.00 and after that the heat went down and I am currently overclocked at 350 and slowly going up and didn't increase the voltage. I actually just accidently fixed the problem by not having the system memory multiplier on auto and after that I slowly figured out why I was having problems and my guess is since I have memory that goes to 800 and the multiplier is only on 2.00 then I can increase it until 800 without any trouble. I noticed that the memory went down significantly when I manually changed it. Looks like I don't have to read any tutorials after all lol. Thanks for the help everyone!

Ok I need some advice. I managed to overclock at a stable fsb of 350 which is what I would like to have it as but after a few hours my pc just restarts. Now what I would like to know is why it does this. Is it because the temps are too much? It idles at ~50C and under 100% load is ~65C. I'm using a Thermaltake Big Typhoon. I heard people saying that my PSU could also be the problem and if so I guess I will reluctantly replace it.

It's my understanding that above 60c id BAD. Idling at 50c is BAD.

Here is my rig and temps:
E6600 (Mult:7, 1.5V, 30c idle, 50c full load) @ 3.5GHZ
P5b Deluxe (FSB: 500MHZ, NB and FSB termination voltage maxed)
DDR21000 RAM (1:1 ratio 4-4-4-5 2.3v)

I'm watercooled. If someone is stable on air near that speed...they need to post WHICH air cooler.

Also, if you have not attached the air cooler exactly right, it may be seated improperly. This will royally mess with temps. Are you using the stock thermal pad that came with that cooler?

EDIT: OK I see you switched to a TTBT? What thermal grease did you use? How did you prep the CPU and TT surfaces? What process did you use to "seat" it? You shoudl be seeing low temps at idle at the very least.

I used the thermal grease that came with it and I just wiped the cpu surface. I don't understand what you mean by what process I used to seat it.
