I just wanted to know which of these two would you pick (choosing in the same screen size of course, Asus 15 inch vs msi 15 inch etc..) judging by price/performance and the quality of the laptops (I need it to last for a quite a while)
The budget is around 1500/1600 tops. I am open to any other suggestions too but like I mentioned in the first post, I am not really interested in the barebones stuff. Thanks in advance smile.gif

I'd much rather go for an MSI model since they're more accessible for upgrades and the 15" model has two internal drive bays, not including the CD drive.

I know you said that the 660M would eventually be able to run like a 670M once drivers mature. But wouldn't that be the same for the 670M? The Clevo tops out at $1,344.00 which is the peak of my budget. 15.6 is my ideal screen size too. I built the G55 with all the same parts as the Clevo but it is showing $1,427.00. With my limited knowledge of gaming PCs I feel that the Clevo from AVADirect would be a better deal correct? I know the G55 has great cooling, but the Clevo i'm not too sure about. Which is touchy for me because I know I will want to overclock the laptop when the time comes.

No, the 670M is the matured 570M. the 660M will surpass the 670M since it hasn't "matured" yet.

The Clevo is the better of the two mentioned here. Trust me, it's got waaay better cooling and will be capable of handling upgrades in the future. wink.gif

Upgrade the GPU?? I didn't even know that was possible in laptops. blinksmiley.gif

So the 660M will eventually mature into the range of the 670M. But a mature 660M still won't be out the 670M overclocked right?

It seems right now the Clevo is going to be what I get. :3

Yes, you can upgrade parts in a laptop. Ever seen the back of the X7200 taken off? biggrin.gif*Linky*

As for the 660M overclocked, it'll be more powerful than an overclocked 670M most likely due to it's efficiency and due to the architecture surrounding it. I can't make any guarantees here, but as far as it looks... the 660M is your best bet. smile.gif

Well I guess I'll go with the Clevo since I will have the ability to upgrade the GPU if I feel that the 670M isn't enough for me. (if that is possible)

You should add that even though most 15 inch or less laptops only have one HDD bay, most (all?) of the new HM77 chipset laptops come with an MSATA port so that you can still have a SSD with a Mech drive. Although there are only a couple MSATA drives out there, and most have pretty bad price/size ratio.

From what I know, yes it is. Unlike the 670m and 675m which are rebrands of the 570m and 580m.

I wish Clevo had an option for the 660m I would really like to have the cooling features of the Clevo and the Kepler 660m from the G55. *sigh* I guess I can't have it all.

They do have plans on introducing the 660M to their lines, however supplies are on back-order since the demanding pre-orders seemed to have annihilated every spare GPU. tongue.gif

The only reason why ASUS has any of the 660Ms is because they build the machine around the GPU......and plan accordingly. biggrin.gif

However, despite what I've seen and heard, I'd still honestly go for a 670M if I could. Primarily since it almost matches a stock 675M in Vantage. (670M Scores 12,300 vs the 675M scores 13,500.)

I got my Clevo P151EM1 in the mail this week! I have only had LoL and Minecraft on it but they both run smooooooooth. smile.gif I'm going to put Crysis on it and see how that plays.

I am IN LOVE with the screen. I guess since it's 1080p packed in a 15.6in laptop it looks much more crisp compared to my 24.3in Asus monitor.

Your suggestions have been SO much help. I appreciate it very much. +Rep for you sir!

Awesome to hear that much sir! And thanks for the +Rep too. biggrin.gif I've been repped a bit for this thread, which honestly wasn't the initial intent, but still...it's good to see that at least ONE of the many attempts to help people has yielded a fair amount of success. ^_^

I'm working on a revised list for those of you who are just tuning in. One of the topics has to do with the realistic differences between the 660M and the 670M. thumb.gif
