Would you suggest a Powerpro R 12:17-680?
http://www.powernotebooks.com/PowerPro-R-12-17-680-MSI-1762-gaming-laptop-notebooks-sys-4900.html

MSI builds these laptops correct?

EDIT: Does anyone know how bad the chassis flex is on these laptops?
And is there any reason why I should go with a 680m over a 670m? Other than the price difference?

Well judging how the 680M is literally twice as fast as the 670M, I'd say that's a pretty good reason to choose one over the other. tongue.gif

The flex of the chassis doesn't really exist from what I've been told on various other sites. It's made of plastic, but most machines are, and yet it's sturdy and fairly rigid feeling. My old Qosmio X505 had a few flex issues but it was like that due to the size. Gave it a bit more impact resistance... which came in handy once or twice... redface.gif

And yes, those are built by MSI. They use the chassis that someone else creates. tongue.gif Same with Sager or Malibal using the Clevo body. They're a reseller.

I was able to talk Dell/Alienware down to $1488 before shipping on an m17x R4 with the 7970M GPU. It has roughly the same specs as the 680M. The Alienwares also have better driver support on the 7970M than other manufacturers (sager/clevo).

Enduro still needs some work but I wanted to post this to let you know that an Alienware laptop is able to be talked down to a really good price. I even got them to price match with a clevo/sager which is how I got my deal. You may want to talk them and show them that machine with the 680M for that price and I'm sure they could work something out. I turned away from the MSI laptops because they looked really cheap.

Just my two cents. I may have become an Alienware fanboy.

I'm looking at buying a laptop for gaming, guildwars 2 specifically. I'm looking for the best performance for $3000 or as close to that as I can get (200 over is ok) with a backlit keyboard and a 17 inch screen. There seem to be so many options any advice?
Does adding your own thermal compound help? I was thinking about getting a laptop and wondering if I should pick up some mx 4 or 2. Looked primotech had some good compound on the skinne labs. http://skinneelabs.com/thermal-paste/
They said it sets up fast, and worked really well dont know if its non-conductive, The MX has allways been the old stand by, for non-conductive.
I was also wondering about power supply's I was thinking about the sager 15.6 with a nivdia 675. I saw the power supply and it was massive, can you use a smaller after market power supply for a trickle charge or will pc rob all the power from the battery and the charger. The thing looked like a cinder block, almost the size of a 1000w power supply.

Essentially it gives you all the best bang for buck components and sets you up with a machine that's more than capable of tackling anything out on the market today. smile.gif The GTX 670MX is just as fast as the previous GTX 675M but draws around half the power and remains cooler. smile.gif Not a bad tradeoff if you ask me. Not to mention it leaves a bit of room for some overclocking. wink.gif

That total comes out to $2,991 and some change. smile.gif

Yes, if you can manage, I would grab either MX-4 or IC7 Diamond. The latter is the best but MX-4 is easier to acquire.

As for the PSU, I would not recommend doing what you want to do. Because during gaming, the GTX 675M is a 100w GPU and if you have a 45w CPU, that alone is 145w...then add in the screen, motherboard, USB devices, hard drives, wifi, etc... So it's literally impossible to use a smaller PSU. Buying a gaming laptop isn't for those who want a superbly mobile machine with gaming on the side. It's for those who want to game and be mobile. thumb.gif

Hey there.

I'm getting close to buying my Asus G55-RS71 (was waiting for any Thanksgiving deals). So I see there's a new model out, the G55-DH71 with Thunderbolt port, while I'm not interested in the port itself, and the model actually has a lower capacity 500GB HDD compared to the 750GB HDD in the RS71, it has a slightly better processor (3630Qm vs 3610QM), rest is the same.

I'm inclined towards the DH71 because its actually cheaper. $50 cheaper than the RS71 on xopticpc ($1,309 vs $1,259)
http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g55vwdh71-p-4971.html
http://www.xoticpc.com/asus-g55vwrs71-p-4474.html

And its just $1199 on Newegg and Amazon + free shipping on both.
http://www.amazon.com/Republic-Gamers-G55VW-DH71-15-6-Inch-Laptop/dp/B009AEW5HI
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230589

So my question is, should I just get it new (from newegg or amazon) or wait? Could I get a better deal closer to/during Black Friday?
Note: I'm not going to personally be shopping for it during the sale (I'm not in the US), I'll be sending my cousin.

Thanks

Yup the 17" inch monitor is the way to go, But I'll have a lot of mobility issues. Just the fact you can take it to the darkest corner and 3D game, is awesome, there will be missing person's reports filed before they realize where you are. Then no strain on the eye's, plenty of monitor, But I just get nailed at trying to move the pc around. I almost live out of a back pack, And for business open close open close carry here and there, the 17 inch is like carrying a boat anchor. Then Airport , in and out of car etc etc. A real pain in the a$$.
The I saw the sager with a 670 / 675mx in a 15.6 was like cool, have graphics and able to really game. Then wait a minute, the power invert-er for the plug in, Is Half the size of the PC its self. To accomidate every thing into a pack it would really suck lugging that thing around.
How does the 660 or 650 rate in-comparison with the 670mx. It seems the models for 650 660 are more managable. Maybe get lucky 660mx would appear for 14" and 15" but probably dreaming.
Looked like lenovo is sli 650 which would rock, on a 15" pretty slim computer the red buttons look cool too. I suppose there are no stat's or benchmarks for the 650 put in sli.
Well in short I guess bang for the buck the sager just have to accomidate for a large power supply.
Then I saw asus did come out with a rog 14 it looked cool

just scared of the price, for anything new and has ripping capibiltys. Maybe for Feltadox but it sounds like there on a budget too.

There's not going to be a 660MX as far as the other specs go. The only way they would make one is if they based it on a highly gimped GK106 GPU.
