Monitors - To get tempered glass or not

Thread Starter
Well, I've finally decided to take the plunge to get one of those fancy Korean Catleap/Achieva/PCbank 27" 2560x1440 monitors for a dirty steal of a price off of ebay. I currently use a 1080P monitor in 27" so I imagine that nearly doubling my pixel density will make my monitor much nicer looking.

I am stuck between deciding if I want tempered glass on the panel or not.

I'm currently leaning towards getting the tempered glass version due to being in a room with little to no glare, and it seems to 'look' nicer. My attempts in searching for more information on this subject have been futile.

Anyone have any comments, input? Which is better, why?

Thanks for the links. I've actually went through all 370 pages of the second link today and just couldn't find that much information. It seems like some people complain about a bit of hair/dust that can be cleaned behind the panel but thats about it. The other advantage is less chance of breaking anything if it gets dropped on or something.

Beyond that, I just cant find any other information. Does having tempered glass make the panel/screen look better at all or is it just placebo tricking me?

I can't really comment on that as I don't have a tempered glass monitor. But I have seen them in the past and imo they do have a better look(placebo tricking me)??? I would post in one of those threads the question/concerns you may have.I'm sure someone will help you out.

The tempered glass on a monitor looks very slick. Between the look of my Catleap tempered glass and the U2312hm I have sitting next to it, I prefer the look of the Catleap. The flushness of the front glass plate makes a big difference in my opinion.

Thanks for the reply. Getting a side by side opinion like that really helped me. I went ahead and ordered the Achieva Shimian with tempered glass from red-cap today. Realistically, I won't get it before the weekend, but hell, I sure am hoping! biggrin.gif

is the tempered glass a bad option for rooms with a lot of sun / glare? mine can be brutal during the morning hours.

You'll get lots of reflections. I have a PCBank with tempered glass, but my room doesn't have direct sunlight so I have very little or no glare.

thanks, I'm sort of on the side. I get morning light but the monitor sits more or less perpendicular to the sun. Are the colors better on the tempered glass models?

I'd also prefer not to have too much in the way of dust issues ... a little won't bug me but I don't want something obnoxious
