Molex crimping

Thread Starter
hey guys, i was wondering if i need any special wire crimpers or can i just use basic ones(like the ones at lowes for example) to crimp my molex pins. I completely forgot about a crimper and can't finish my wires without one. So do i need a special crimper? Or can i just use any old crimper? What if I use pliers and jut ben down the "wings" onto the bare wire, will that work?

When you say "molex pins", you mean for your ATX-24 / PCI connector or the old 4-pin type? The latter you can better do with pliers, the former you need a special crimper compatible with the Molex MiniFitJr range. You can get it from Molex themselves but it's very expensive. Reasonably priced alternatives from MDPC (Nils personally tests each one and you get 100+ free pins) or Moddiy is supposed to be a good one too. Lastly there's really cheap - I won't list sources - but they don't always crimp properly, especially they don't make the wings bite the wire insulation properly.
