[Destructoid] Dark Souls PC uses GFWL, gamers mobilize to stop it - Page 15

Actually the majority of PC games worldwide are still sold at retail. The witcher 2 for example sold almost 70% at retail. The whole DD is taking over right this second talk does not reflect reality especially on a world wide level. People forget that in many countires PC games have as much or more shelf space then consoles do. Just because Gamestop doesn't have anything but WoW and The Sims doesn't mean everywhere else is like that. In my area at least I can go to Microcenter, Best Buy, Target or Wal Mart all within ten miles of each other and actually have a pretty decent selection of titles to choose from.

Oh that is unless you count piracy. I believe the witcher 2 was pirated on like a 4:1 basis? And this was from a dev that did literally everything all those whiney gamers wanted done? Yeah if I was namco I'd be ignoring this petition. In fact if I was Namco I'd be putting the hardest most intrusive DRM possible in the game because reality is sales are front-loaded and if I can stop my title from being pirated for a week that's a big win.

All this makes me sad it really does. But let's not act like we didn't bring it upon ourselves. Pubs didn't just come up with DRM one day to annoy us.

This is the reason they can get away with stuff like this. Nobody can do a proper boycott anymore. If everybody stood their ground for once, we wouldn't have problems like this. Things like DLC would have absolutely disappeared a long time ago if instead of complaining about it and buying it anyway, people actually stuck to their guns and didn't buy it. Saying "boohoo, buy it anyway" perpetuates the problem.

I have never purchased a game that requires GFWL, Steam, or Origin, and never will.

This is absurd. DRM is not effective, and the inevitability of piracy as a justification to waste money on something that doesn't work to reduce piracy is idiotic.

The only way "we" (and I use the term exceedingly loosely) brought any of this upon our selves is buying garbage software at all. If no one paid for it, all these big name, out of touch publishers would keel over and die, and we'd all be better off.

All I know is, I asked for Dark Souls on PC and they listened. Countless gamers will have access to a game they otherwise wouldn't have, and for something like GFWL to stand in the way of that seems silly to me.

I signed the petition and it would be nice if it didn't use GFWL, but I'm buying it regardless.

I suspect there's a major case of people latching onto an issue and then validating it. Like you, for instance, who states that you live in New York, but cite region issues as a problem for GFWL.

It's like me saying they don't get penguins in Greece, so I'm not buying any sausages today.

Yes, some games are region locked and not available in all regions. But as I said, GFWL games are only available in 30 countries. There truly isn't anything else on the PC that is as region locked as this. And the country limit is beyond stupid. Most of the Eastern European gaming communities are tied to each other but Russia is the only Live supported country so people from Belarus, Ukraine, etc can't even buy the game that their friends from across the border can.

As for the latter half of your comment, that is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard in my life.

Because I'm white male that means I shouldn't stand up or care about the rights of minorities or women when they get abused?

Just because it doesn't affect me personally, doesn't mean I have to be ignorant and not address this issue.

I'm not accusing anyone here of pirating if that's how it came off but the sole reason for DRM is piracy. Don't kid yourself otherwise. Whether it's effective or not is another story.

However seeing as you can't count the games on one hand that come out each year without DRM I'd be willing to bet that it actually does increase sales. Steam seems pretty popular with PC gamers.

Yes, in GTAIV,

Ironically, cracking it makes the game more stable.

They did test runs; the game cracked not only runs faster, but crashes less.

GFWL is terrible.

GFWL is terrible.

What exactly does optimizing the game files for better FPS have to do with GFWL again?
