[Destructoid] Dark Souls PC uses GFWL, gamers mobilize to stop it - Page 18

I hate to say it, but I like GFWL. Why? On every PC game (that I have played) that has had GFWL, I can plug in my xbox 360 controller and the game detects it and works perfectly with it.

There are more people who would prefer it to use Steamworks, and allot of PC gamers don't buy stuff unless it's on Steam

get over it

Basically the same mentality as stupid Apple fanboys, and yet those kind of people are made fun of all day on forums like this one, gotta love the hypocrisy, especially since those communities all hated Steam a few years ago and most people said they would never use it and that it was the worst thing to happen to PC gaming.

Fast forward a few years and now most of the same demographic love Steam to death and even want to force Steamworks on all of us even though it doesn't offer any benefit and forces a DRM scheme which is precisily what that same group of people scream about the other publishers.

Last I checked GFWL heralded itself to be able to stay connected with you xboxlive account to track achievements, gameplay, friends and such. Why would he want 2 xbox live accounts? More importantly why would a pc user like myself need to register for an xbox live account when I dont even have an xbox, is the GFWL account not enough as it is?

doh.gif Other games can detect 360 controllers you dont need gfwl games to detect that.

I'm trying to figure out why some people act like every single petition about anything is the equivalent of thousands of people urinating in their coffee mugs.

Because these people are anti-petition hipsters. tongue.gif

If a bunch of people want something, the antagonists be contrary just for the sake of being contrary. These were the same naysayers who ridiculed PC gamers for petitioning Dark Souls to PC.

I can count myself not among those =D I signed the petition to get this game on PC after watching my friend play on the PS3 (very poorly, I might add, lol) I just don't see the fuss behind it using GFWL and I can agree with those that see the ridiculousness of asking for one DRM over another, as though one is better than the other. I'm buying it anyway =D I'm going to start throwing money at the screen in August.

How to fix this "problem"

Step one: Create/use a different account for your Live PC games.

Drivers causing "issues" with your Windows installation?
How to fix the "problem"

Step one: Uninstall the drivers and use Windows' stock ones, or take out the hardware if Windows doesn't have any.

I'm sorry, but you're really grasping at straws if you think that is an appropriate for a GFWL. It is a genuine problem. Guess what? I'd be saying it about Steam, or Origin, or Impulse, or Battle.net too. What if he has friends on his main account he wants to play PC games with? Oh, now he has to get them to add the new account too...What if he wants to get his gamerscore up on the one account? (A small issue, I admit.) Tough crap for him.

You dissed some digital distribution platform. No matter how dead or crappy it is, that means you're automatically a Steam fanboy on OCN.

Thanks for helping the popular opinion that all of us railing against GFWL are uninformed Steam fanboys. GFWL games can be on Steam too, and most of us would prefer it had no DRM at all.

That's not what I was alluding to, though. It's akin to saying "gangs ruined my life. There was a shooting of which neither me, my immediate friends or family were involved in and nothing of which affected my life personally. This ruining my life entirely. Gangs must be stopped" While we can all agree on the fact that gangs need to be stopped (or in this case GFWL needs to stop doing those things that are a bit silly - like being available in a country but not having online services to authenticate a game purchase/sign up) it just makes one go wth.gif when you say that.

I'd personally sign any petition or statement that calls for GFWL to be fixed on those terms. But I'm not going to act like it affects me at all.
