And I personally have no issue with release day DRM (although it hardly stops pirates from playing) and neither should anyone else since we shouldn't be playing titles before they're cleared for release by the publishers. That's not up for debate, I believe.
The Fallout problem was 3 years ago, btw, I remember the problem being in the news. I personally don't buy DLC unless it's in a pack (like the mentioned GTAIV pack) because I disagree with it down to the core but I can see how that was a problem, 3 years ago, but I don't see how that has any baring on today.
Some people just want to complain because it's not Steamworks exclusively and I cannot relate to those people at all.
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/01/27/fallout-3-new-content-adventures-in-gfwl/
That guy details the fallout 3 problem he had and the main issue he seems to have is spite for the fact that he can't get it all through Steam. Boo hoo. All he ahd to do was sign into GFWL and download the DLC. It's really, really not hard. I downloaded the free stuff I got with my Fabel III purchase a bit back. Sign in, check downloads, click download, done. Not a problem. I really, really have a hard time seeing the issue when people's complaints are that it's different. I personally can relate to people having legitimate (read: breaking) problems, but when it's just a slightly different way or a different method (using GFWL instead of steam) I just disregard those people, like the author of the article.
There are MANY things to complain about Games for Windows Live, but that's not enough to refuse to buy a game PC gamers petitioned for in the first place. I think everyone should be recognising this above all else: PC gamers asked for a port, got it, and many are now refusing to buy it because it's not on Steam. Boo, bloody hoo, except it sets a pathetic precedent for the future. For once a petition worked and now it looks like future ones wont... Because the decision to use GFWL has been made, development will have started already and it's NOT going to change. The best that's going to happen for the petition signers is they'll see it on Steam (inc GFWL) and that's probably what was going to happen in the first place.
Lesson? Don't listen to PC gamers that create petitions because they're a self entitled bunch.

This thread has kind of derailed, me thinks. It's become Steam vs Origin vs GFWL.

In an ideal world, I'd rather see the game released on all distribution platforms, but not require a specific one.
I hate GFWL. It's as simple as that. I don't mind if others like it, but I'd like the choice of not using it. Just like everyone should have a choice with their distribution method.

And yes, I do understand that GFWL is mostly because it will be the main hub for the entire games multiplayer/network structure, I'm sure there is another way tho.

Oh yeah me too. I'd rather it be Retail (without Steamworks, or GFWL) Origin, Steam (with Steamworks) and Games for Windows Live Marketplace (with GFWL) and I'd go for retail every time.

Yet the poll is being supported on the basis of "Steam works for me, so hear our petition to use Steam cause I think it's OK".
It is infact the very basis for your post.
There are untold amounts of hijacked Steam accounts all over, bug reports, update instability, taking weeks for support to reply to tickets and the rest. (How many "my GFWL account was hacked!" threads have you ever seen?)
However, because YOU are okay with it, you are not bothered.
You mention region support (even though that can be circumvented by using an address from a supported country), but fail to mention how Steam doesn't work for people staying in a large amount of colleges/universities.
However, because you are not affected, it's barely worth mentioning and people are pushing for the game to be Steamworks which would mean anyone who didn't want to/couldn't use Steam would basically be screwed.
I can see where the whole "just because you say it works for you doesn't make it okay" thing comes from, but in the end that's basically what 99% of valiant Steam supporters arguments amount to.

1) It's estimated that steam accounts for 70% of digital sales, with games like Witcher 2 saying 80% of their digital sales came from steam. With that many people using your service you're going to have reports just on sheer volume. Compare number of GFWL complaints to it's number of users and consider the same ratio for steam - it isn't even close.

2) I don't think you understand the difference between being a steamworks title and the steam distribution service. One is a form of DRM and the other is a digital store - it's very important to make the distinction between the two. Accounts being hijacked and other problems relate to distribution and have absolutely nothing to do with the DRM.

3) Have you actually read any of the "My steam account got hijacked" threads? Every thread I've read involved some guy responding to phishing attack. These dudes have their steam id posted in their forum username, add everyone they meet to their friends list, and click on random links they get via PM. This doesn't happen as much to GFWL because no one actually buys games off there - there's no game library to steal.

4) Did you really compare the steam update process to that of GFWL? doh.gif I log in, surf the store for a few minutes, and get the message "steam needs to restart". Steam reboots itself then I go on as nothing happened. I just tried to log into GFWL and this is what I got:

216

Great support you got there. Steam and GFWL both have bugs, but when they're at their best which one works better? Are you actually going to argue that GFWL has a better update design than steam?

5) You speak of steam not working in a number of universities yet you forgot to mention who's fault that is. It's not that steam doesn't have the functionality - steam doesn't work because the ports/program get blocked by the college. Now, compare that to having to use a false address as a solution. REALLY?? So people should have to circumvent the rules just to play a game THEY PAID FOR??? What's next - you're going to advocate piracy to get around the login bugs?

C'mon man.. you seem to be defending GFWL just to play devil's advocate.

Of course it's all just a personal opinion. I've had problems with Desura, GFWL, and Steam; yet I still use them when forced to (Origin hasn't given problems but it's still young.) Only reason I'd sign this petition is so I wouldn't spend the extra effort/time going through both Steam & GFWL for one game.
Still happy to see DS coming to pc; I don't own a current-gen console anymore and would prefer $40-60 instead of $240 to play one game.

I don't think gfwl is that bad either but i signed the petition anyway. I'd rather not have it, and I like the idea of the customers dictating more of these things, democracy is fun!

On the matter of GFWL, just shy of 20,000 people have now signed a new petition asking for the bloated horror’s removal from the PC version. Namco told VG247 that GFWL’s inclusion was “still to be decided”, so perhaps there is yet hope they’ll opt for something else.

It's GFWL, no doubt. I'm disappointed about no redone UI and no proper mouse + KB Control.

Games like Dark Souls play best with KB+M, so...frustrating. I didn't expect PC options like texture, lighting, ect.

But, we can always force AA, use the FXAA Post Injector / ENBseries. But they better damn support higher resolutions. I mean, I've actually seen console ports that don't allow you to select resolution. That's absurd.

I don't get where they said Modding was a real possibility. Didn't see anything to imply that, but hopefully someone can use something like TexMod to inject a new UI or something.

This part is messed up though:

The PC version will be a faithful port of the PS3/360 versions with some added elements, right?Miyazaki: Yes. It will be a very faithful port. There won't be any changes to the resolution, and it won't be 60fps.
