Having trouble with my OC.

Thread Starter
This is my first ever OC so please bare with me as I'm relatively new to all this. Here are the components im dealing with first of all:
ASUS Sabertooth 990fx
AMD Phneom II 1055t @ stock 2.8GHz
G.skill 2x4gb 1333 (9,9,9,25) not sure what those even mean or if they matter

I have tried to find videos on youtube with a combination similar to this and have had very little luck. The only videos i found had a slightly different mobo which I'm assuming makes a large difference. I don't want an extreme OC but jut something useful where a performance increase is at least somewhat noticeable. I see all these posts saying that this CPU can get upwards of 4GHz, but i don't think my xigmatek Gaia cpu cooler is powerful enough for that. (correct me if im wrong). I've messed with BIOS settings a bit and have been able to boot at 3.6GHz but prime95 stop itself after about 10 seconds. I just am not familiar enough with which parameters to change in the bios. Ive taken a look around OCN and tried to follow different OC guides but have had no luck (namely the 1055t owners club guide). Any help would be very much appreciated.

Learning is part of the Overclocking experience. The links below should help you:

With Phenom II CPUs the desired max temp is generally 60C or less under full load testing like P95. Most people prefer to keep the max temp closer to 55C however as errors can occur above 55C in some CPUs.

How high a CPU will OC is dependent on many factors as each combo of CPU/RAM/mobo is different.

It matters.  You are likely going to have a difficult time passing 3.5Ghz on the CPU unless your RAM is just not set properly and it is rated for above DDR3-1333 operation.
