Thanks everyone! What do you guys recommend for a CPU cooler ($80 or under) if i decide to over clock? What would be a safe/good overclock speed (I mainly game on this rig)?

definitely go for the antec or corsair series of Performance water coolers. most of them are always on sale.. can pick up an h80/h100 for about $65 - $90, no assembly required. tho if you are afraid of going that route can always pick up a good v6 or something along those lines.

as for safe clock, that depends on what your specific chip can handle. some pples 1090s wont go past 4ghz mine has booted into OS at 4.6 (that is definitely not a number to shoot for btw and i am very lucky my ignorance didnt fry my chip) our 1090s hit 3.8 in turbo mode (or is it 3.6) either way 3.9-4.1 ghz should be an easy OC for you to do. and if you really want some juice tweak your northbridge to anywhere in the 2.5-3.0ghz and you will really see a drastic change in machine.

good luck in your endeavor bro. will be keeping tabs to see some results

I'd keep what you've got mate and upgrade the GPU. I'd be sticking with Nvidia if I were spending my hard earned. As for a CPU cooler. The Antec 920 absolutely rocks. thumb.gif

Current rig:
CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T @ 3.2ghz (stock clock)
Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair IV Formula
Video/Graphics card: Palit GeForce GTX 560 Ti 2GB GDDR5 (Nvidia 3D vision capable)
RAM: 12GB DDR3 1333 (8gbs is corsair, 4 gbs is g.skill. all DDR3 1333)
PSU: OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W
HDD: 1TB Western Digital Black Caviar 64mb cache
OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit
Case: NZXT Phantom 410 mid tower
Potential build:
CPU: AMD FX-8120 Processor Eight Core 3.1ghz (4ghz max turbo)
Mobo: ASUS M5A88-M AMD 880G AM3+ Motherboard
video card: XFX Radeon HD 6870 1GB GDDR5 (possibly the 2GB version)
RAM: 8GB Patriot DDR3 1333
PSU: Xion 700W
HDD: Seagate barricuda 1TB 7200rpm, 64mb cache
OS: Windows 7
Case: Xion CyborGX Gaming Mid tower
What do you guys think? I have a budget of about $950-$1000, and I'd like the processor to be the AMD FX-8120 processor. As far as the motherboard goes, I'm not really picky, one that will support a PCI-E card (probably won't use crossfire ever), hold about 12GB ram and one i can safely turbo my processor. Any suggestions? What do you guys think? Thanks!

Personally i Would just keep The Rig you have at the moment , Mabey Buy a SSD For a faster Boot or if you arent fussed with bootup Speed there isnt really anything else to upgrade. Well you could Upgrade your Ram to 1600mhz But you will only get a small performance boost. smile.gif Entirely Up To you !
