Looking For Headphone Recommendations

Thread Starter
I'm new to the computer audio scene, mostly what good audio I have is in my car. I'm looking for an overall good quality headphones (aren't we all), that fits an "average" budget.

Budget: Preferably $100, if a more expensive set goes on sale for that amount I can wait. MAX is $150 for headphones (if it goes over because of shipping that's fine) but that would have to have some substantial build/quality increase.

Music Tastes: I really like everything from Metal (Children of Bodom, In Flames, As I Lay Dying, etc...) to dubstep and nearly everything in between (except country rolleyes.gif)

Desired Perks: I really want a well balanced headset with my tastes that varies between quite a bit, I guess if I had to pick, a slightly "bassier" would be a little better for movies/games (non-competitive gamer). Right now I'm currently a 75% movies/music and 25% gaming but that may switch when some newer games that keep my attention come out.

Owned Products: Right now all I own is a Xonar DG that I had just purchased and a Razer Carcharsias(?) headset that I will still use when I need to talk to some people.

Use: These are going to be 100% inside headphones but I am open to noise canceling since when I fold (on a break right now) I turn my fans up all the way to 2150rpm so it can get noisy. Also game/movie immersion is a huge plus

I appreciate all the comments/suggestions headphone.gif

I have read over that thread, that really doesn't give me the info that I need for my range of music. I guess I'd fall under more of the "Compromising Gamer" category, they say they have good bass? Like game bass or good for dubstep? I also want to make sure it handles metal fairly well, I want the solo's to really stick out or best they can while maintaining some decent bass.

Not sure about dubstep bass, but I really liked the Audio-Technica ATH-M45s when I listened to them. Incredible frequency response, great sounding closed headphones. Would have been my choice if I stuck to my $100 limit rather than going with the DT770s at $170.

Ultrasone HFI-580. Tight bass, soundstage is ok for a closed can (S-logic)
they do a good job with fast paced music.

Guess you didn't read the Rock/Metal section. Grado's are the headphone you're looking for. I suggest you try them out before you buy them though. They're not everyone's cup of tea. But if you like the sound you'll LOVE it.

Try the Allesandro MS-1's if you like the grado sound. They go for 100. The only other option would be to buy the SR225i's used for 140ish.

Simca, I stated that I'd prefer to have slightly "bassier" headphones than ones that don't receive too much bass for my movie/theatrical game experience. So I didn't think that the rock/metal head phones would work best for me. Also, the closest tech store I live to is Best Buy which is about an hour away so I have to buy my first set of headphones blind mad.gif thanks for the suggestions so far. I'll be looking a lot more in depth with the ones listed.
