Logitech Z5500 suddenly died! Seeking cause and fix

Thread Starter
Ive had these speakers a little while now. they worked for approximately 18 months then, whilst on, crackled and ceased to function.
Also, When switched on there is a resonating sound coming from the torridial transformer in the sub so I personally suspect the control unit.
I have opened up both the sub and controller to look for signs of obvious damage however couldnt find anything obvious, nor burnt or charred

Has anyone got any ideas to what this may be?

I bought a set of this like 3 years and a half ago. They died after 6 months and I did some research and it could be 2 things. Either the fuse in the Sub burnt or the control unit went bad. Those 2 were the most common issues.

I was lucky that I was able to RMA them because I got them used for $180 and it was the first version of the set and they sent me a different set which was nicer due to the cabling w/o even asking for the receipt. So warranty must be 2-3 years try to RMA them.
