Intel 520 series vs OCZ Vertex 4

Thread Starter
So I've been looking for an SSD. Before, I had my eye on a Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe 240GB, but after seeing the Intel 520 series and the OCZ Vertex 4, I've changed my mind. The problem is I'm not really sure which to go with. Intel uses a SandForce controller, but it's apparently very reliable, while OCZ has new tech altogether.

For a user that will game and browse the net a lot, what would OCN suggest? I'd like to get a drive that is fast, and I prioritize that over reliability, given that firmware updates exist for a reason. From what I've read, the OCZ is faster, but the Intel is better in some areas as well. I wanted to stay between $250 and $350, and am targeting a 240-256GB model. If you all can suggest an even better SSD than any of the 3 I've mentioned, feel free to suggest away.

I appreciate the help.

Well, my little bit is that the Intel 520 series has been around for a while, and has proven itself to be a reliable and super fast drive, while not sacrificing any quality or speed. The Vertex 4 could be just as good, but really, nobody knows yet how well it will perform in the long run, or whether it could have something like the Crucial M4's 6000 hour bug(which was fixed by firmware, but still). Just my opinion, but I would feel better going with the 520

Out of those two I'd say the 520. Think about it...Intel or OCZ? rolleyes.gif

I'd say the OCZ Vertex 4.

Intel uses sandforce and OCZ Vertex 4 uses rebadged Marvell 8197 controller
