Upgrade questions regarding going from a z68 to z77.............

Thread Starter
Hey there folks. I'm really thinking of upgrading my mobo to a z77 over the next month or so. I'll either go ASUS or ASRock to replace my current z68 board. I want PCI Express 3.0 x16 with two slots and most z77 boards will support that as my z68 will not. This is for me to go cross fire for my 7870's!

What would any of you have to say? Thanks in advance! thumb.gif

To get PCI Express 3.0 you need Ivy Bridge CPU. You do not need Z77 motherboard.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1242211/faq-does-my-p67-z68-motherboard-s-support-pci-express-3-0

You do not need PCIe 3.0 for 7870 CF.

It will take 2-3 more generations of video cards to even come close to maxing out PCI-E 3.0, (and its on most Z68 boards now).

Z68 to Z77 isn't an upgrade, its a waste of money.
